Green Wave stages homecoming victory over Bayou; Sydney Hall crowned queen

By Will Dickins
North Delta blew out Bayou Academy 55-20 on homecoming night Friday. Sydney Claire Hall had lots to smile about as she was crowned queen during halftime festivities.
The Green Wave offense was clicking on all cylinders the entire game.  They had no problem running the ball against the Colts for a total of 366 yards.  Almost two thirds of that came from Kaleb Joyner’s 205 yards.
It was a big night for him as he ran past, over, and around defenders attempting to stop him.  Six different players scored touchdowns for North Delta. The defense gave up one score in the first quarter and two in the second quarter, but they shutout Bayou Academy in the second half.
North Delta scored three touchdowns in the first quarter. One was on the first drive of the game on a fade route to Luke Daniels from Will Kidder.  That play was setup by a fourth and five heave to John Haga Lewis.  Lewis tipped the ball to himself and reeled it in to help his team keep the drive going.  The ball was back in their hands after a sack from Shawn Payne who had been out a few games to injury.
The offense capitalized with another long pass play to Lewis on a seam route for the score.  Bayou Academy finally scored, but North Delta kept cruising on offense.  With the drive starting on the 41 yard line,  it took 8 plays to get into the endzone.  After a roughing the passer moved the ball to the ten-yard line, Joyner squeaked into the endzone.  The score was now 21-8.
In the second quarter, each team had the ball twice and scored twice.  North Delta’s came from another Daniels fade route from the 11 yard line.  That TD was set up by runs from Joyner and Kidder.  The second drive looked similar to the first with Joyner and Kidder but ended with Joyner punching it in from the four.  The half ended with the score being 35-20.
North Delta did not look back as they added 20 points in the second half while not allowing any on defense.
On their first drive, they used 19 plays to score.  It was a long drive full of medium distance runs by Kidder and Joyner.  That was the theme for most of the second and third quarters.
A quarterback sneak capped off the long and exhausting drive to make it 41-20 at the end of the third with ND driving again.  They scored one more time in the fourth before bringing in the subs.
Lewis got another touchdown after punching it in for the one after an interception by Chris Williamson.
The difference on defense from the first half to the second was three turnovers North Delta forced.  They got two interceptions from Williamson and Tyler Holland plus a fumble recovery by CJ Bickerstaff.
That changed the game from a relaxing lead to a complete blowout.  North Delta would score one more time to end the night. The score came from Luke Noah at the quarterback position.  He ran 40 yards for the touchdown putting the score at 55-20.
The offense was led by Joyner’s 205 rushing yards who also added 29 receiving yards. Kidder had 159 passing yards and 63 rushing.  Leading receiver was Lewis who had 78 yardsbut here was not much need for passing as the ground game was working all night.
The Green Wave grabbed their second district win and now look on to St. Joe’s next week at home.
