Pope Pee Wee football faced Grenada in home opener

Pope peewee football 7-8-year-old team fell to Grenada Saturday morning after Grenada made two touchdowns in the first quarter.
Pope was unable to gain from the numerous penalties called on Grenada. Grenada continuously stopped the run.
Pope player Terrell Howard stopped Grenada’s run with a tackle in the third and fourth quarters.
Pope held Grenada to two touchdowns but were unable to put up points for themselves.
9-10-Year-Olds
The Pope 9-10-year-olds played a close game that came down to the last few seconds on the clock to win 7-6.
In the final minutes of the fourth quarter, Pope had possession and Bryson Wright ran the ball into the end zone for a touchdown.
With the score tied, Pope kicked the extra point and took the lead and the win.
Grenada kicked off to Pope. Bryson Wright made the catch to the 45 yard line.
Pope continued to move the ball using Wright to get to the 35-yard line for a first down.
Pope got down to the one yard line but was stopped. Pope attempted at field goal but it failed.
Grenada got the ball on the 25 yard line but Pope’s Xavier Webster tackled a Grenada player at the 50.
Grenada ran and was brought down at the 15 yard line by Nicholas Wright.
Grenada gets to the one yard line and scores from there but the extra point kick fails as Pope’s defensive line remains a brick wall and pushes Grenada backwards for a loss of five yards.
Pope received the ball on the 40-yard line and Bryson Wright gets to the 50 yard line.
Baylor Scammons completes the pass to the 40 yard line, giving Pope the first down.
After an incomplete pass on second down, Pope gains five yards but fails to produce.
Pope remained strong on defense holding Grenada to its single touch down.
11-12-Year-Olds
Pope 11-12-year-olds fought hard as they attempted to score but were unable to get around Grenada’s strong defensive line and lost 7-0.
Grenada scored in the second quarter and kicked the extra point.
In the fourth quarter, Pope fought hard for a touchdown but was stopped at the five yard line and pushed backwards for a loss of yards twice and were unable to make the touchdown.
Pope will travel to Pontotoc Saturday.
Other Games
Greenwood will play at Batesville Saturday and Sardis will travel to Tupelo. Games start at 10 a.m.
