Old fines, warrants come back to haunt city court defendants

Judge Bill McKenzie issued several warrants after defendants failed to appear in Batesville Municipal Court held Wednesday.
Austin L. Quinn, 441 Shady Brook Lane, Cropwell, Ala., entered a guilty plea to simple possession of marijuana. He was fined $443.
Guandez L. Sanford, 214 Claude St., Batesville, entered a guilty plea to possession of marijuana in a vehicle and failure to signal. He was fined $598.
Deandre D. Cole, 112 Williams St., Batesville, failed to appear to answer charges for disorderly conduct-failure to comply, reckless driving, driving while license suspended and old fines of $3,339 due since November 2013.
Shaniquaw S. Towns, 201-B Leonard St., Batesville, had a simple assault charge dismissed after the affiant, Arrianna Pounders failed to appear.
She also had old fines of $347 she paid in full prior to court.
David L. Flowers, 200 Fisher St., Batesville, had a simple assault charge dismissed after the affiant, Amanda Broger failed to appear to prosecute. He also had old fines of $415 due since June 2013.
The judge told him to have the fines paid within two weeks or serve time in jail.
Kendrick D. Flowers, 200 Fisher St., Batesville, had a charge for domestic violence dismissed after the affiant, Amanda Broger failed to appear.
He also had old fines of $1,187.50 due since October 2013.
The judge told him to have those fines paid in full within two weeks or serve time in jail.
Adria C. Davis, 4040 Archie Jackson Rd., Grenada, had a warrant issued after failing to appear to answer shoplifting charges.
Antwiesha T. Miles, 106 Bradford, Batesville, was fined $417 for domestic violence and simple assault. She also had old fines of $1,252 due since May 2016.
Judge McKenzie ordered her to have all fines paid by September 15.
Cedricke Green, 124 Noel St., Greenwood, entered a guilty plea to shoplifting beer, socks, shoes, dish cloths and lighters from Walmart worth $79.30 on August 11.
“I was low on gas,” Green told the judge.
“So you stole beer?” the judge replied.
Green also had a hold placed in Ridgeland.
He was fined $1,146.
Jimmy James, 305 Mitchell St., Itta Bena, had a case for shoplifting continued.
He also has a MDOC hold.
A warrant was issued for Michael J. James, 227 Van Voris, Batesville, after he failed to appear for the third time for shoplifting, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct-failure to comply and public drunk.
Staci S. Chapman, 2791 Shiloh Rd., Courtland, had contempt of court-old fines of $1,587 due since May 2016.
The judge told her all fines were due by August 31 or serve time in jail.
Tyrone Ellis, 109 Everette St., Batesville, was referred to the grand jury for aggravated assault by breaking a glass bottle over a man’s head. He was also found guilty of public drunk.
His bond of $50,000 was reduced to $5,000.
Attorney David Walker was appointed as his lawyer.
Mamithrea L. Moton, 3415 Christil St., Memphis, had a case continued for possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle.
Vallene Harris, 1283 Shiloh Rd., Courtland, was found guilty of simple assault and fined $328.
John A Mitchell, 1846 N. Claywood, Tupelo, had a speeding charge remanded to the files for six months pending good behavior.
Brad M. Oregon, 8020 Debowen Wilson, Batesville, was found guilty of speeding and fined $149.
