Question remains: what will be name of connector road?

By Rupert Howell
Panola Supervisors discussed the need for a dedication of the connector road between Pine Lodge Road and House Carlson Drive similar to discussion held the previous week by City of Batesville officials during their July 11 meeting.
Supervisors are awaiting the City to make an announcement and the city has yet to set a date and neither has come up with a name for the road.
“I thought it was named Connector Road,” Alderman Bill Dugger half jokingly told fellow city board members.
The road was a joint project of Panola County and the City of Batesville with the county providing equipment and dirt work while the city paid for asphalt and other materials used in the process of road development.
The conversation surfaced at Monday’s supervisor meeting during road manager Lygunnah Bean’s report where he told supervisors that work was under way on bridges at Lawrence Brothers, Viney Creek, Melrose, and Westbrook Road as well as work in process  on Pope-Crowder, Curtis-Locke Station and Union Roads.
Bean also received permission to advertise to sell and purchase four motor graders.
“The warranties are about out,” he said, “That’s the best time (to sell)”, he stated.
Questioned by Board President Cole Flint about the number of graders needed now that most roads are paved Bean explained since he held the road manager position the number has been reduced from seven to four.
Bean further explained that the road department uses two to maintain the remaining 300 miles of gravel roads and two are used behind trucks that are paving and resurfacing roads.
