Batesville Police Patrolman Justin Johnson arrested a female on a charge of domestic violence Friday, May 13 after he was called to a Bates Street home to investigate a disturbance.
The female suspect told the officer that she had struck the victim “in the face with a closed fist,” his report stated. He “did have visible marking on his face,” the report continues.
The suspect was taken to the Panola County jail; the victim to Merit Health Batesville, according to the report.
The Panola County jail log states that Carolyn Mae Palmertree, 219 Bates Street, was jailed for domestic violence, then released on bond.
Patrolman J. P. Wallace was called to investigate a fight in the Walmart parking lot Sunday that apparently stemmed from a “child exchange,” his report states. The victim told the officer that the suspect attacked him while he was removing the child from her car seat. The victim’s wife transported him to Merit Health to be examined, the report continues.
The officer advised the victim “to come to the Police Department to sign charges” against the suspect, his report concludes.
BPD Lt. Kerry Pittman charged Terrance Ellis with possession of marijuana, less than one ounce, a charge that will carry an enhanced penalty because Ellis was also in possession of a loaded handgun when he was arrested.
The arrest came Friday on Van Voris Street when Pittman stopped a car, in which Ellis was a passenger, for no tag light, according to his report. The driver told the officer she had no driver’s license. Further investigation led to the discovery that police had an outstanding warrant on Ellis.
Pittman’s report states that he smelled what he believed to be marijuana coming from the vehicle when he spoke with Ellis. Ellis admitted prior to being searched that he had it in his pocket, the report states. Ellis was placed in a patrol car.
Before police searched the vehicle, the driver told them there was a loaded handgun under the passenger seat. Pittman located the handgun and unloaded it. Ellis told him the handgun was his.
The driver was charged with no tag light and no driver’s license.
In another incident related to a handgun, the owner of a .380 caliber semi-automatic pistol came to the police department to report that it had been stolen from her vehicle.
The gun owner had last noticed the chrome-plated pistol in her glove compartment on May 7 and discovered it missing on May 12. The vehicle had been left unlocked, BPD Sergeant Richard Lott’s report states.
The officer entered the pistol’s serial number on the National Crime Information Computer (NCIC).
