A carwash and a yard sale are being planned, and an account opened to accept donations for a family that has seen more than its share of problems.
Daniel Sayle, 18-month-old son of Greene and Emily Sayle, now of Charleston but formerly of Batesville, had heart surgery at seven days old and continues to suffer with serious heart problems which are causing medical bills to pile up.
The family had already suffered a devastating blow when they lost their young son John Wesson in 2013.
His family is currently still paying medical expenses from their loss of John Wesson, along with bills for Daniel’s treatment. They currently have over $150,000 in medical debt.
Emily, who had worked eight years at Batesville Clinic, now works full time as an LPN in Charleston. Greene works at Sayle Oil.
The family, including daughter Emma, now a kindergartener, moved to Charleston after John Wesson’s death. Emily’s mother-in-law can watch Daniel while Emily works and he’s not far away in case of emergency.
“I have to be strong for Emma. She’s scared of losing another little brother,” Emily said.
When Daniel was born Emily had noticed something was not right with her newborn.
“Something just wasn’t right. I was told I was just overreacting but I knew something wasn’t right,” Emily said.
After talking with doctors Emily and her husband got the news Daniel would need heart surgery immediately. He had narrowing of the aorta repaired at seven days old. He has mitral valve stenosis and will have his mitral valve replaced in the near future.
“He will be on blood thinners for the rest of his life,” she said.
Since then he’s recently been suffering from medical conditions and seizures that required him to be flown to LeBonheur a couple of weeks ago. His flight itself was $41,331.
“I thought we lost him,” Emily said.
He will see a neurologist for an MRI of his brain May 18.
Community response
Members of the DreamRiders Biking for Children have plans in the works to help and dates for a carwash will be announced as they become available.

A yard sale May 21 will be held at Deanna Mullen’s in Charleston 8 a.m. – 3 p.m.
