While turning over weekend occurrence reports, Batesville Assistant Police Chief Jimmy McCloud asked citizens, “If you see something out of the way, give us a call,” while emphasizing the department’s “if you see something, say something” campaign of community policing.
McCloud noted that door hangars are being placed in strategic locations encouraging citizens to report criminal or suspicious activity and asking, “Don’t wait until three weeks later,” to report something out of the way.

McCloud emphasized that a little information about unusual activity can go a long way in the solving and prevention of crimes as well as protecting your neighborhood when known in a timely manner.
Batesville Police Department had a busy Easter Weekend with most occurrence reports relating to traffic stops from Thursday, March 24 through Saturday, March 26 and one report of a car burglary near Burkes Outlet on Keating Road.
Patrolman Mark Mills’ report stated a vehicle’s owner noticed his personal items inside strewn around and all doors unlocked while also stating his trunk and hood of the vehicle were open as well. The victim also noted the personal information had been taken from the glove compartment as well as other items totaling $480 in worth.
A traffic stop on Keating Road in Kroger Parking lot yielded paraphernalia with two males arrested. Report details indicated that both arrested were sober.
A traffic stop at 9:41 p.m. Friday, March 25 by Patrolman Alex Aikens resulted in the arrest of Santonia Jamarcus Porter on a contempt of court warrant.
On the same day Patrolman Steve McLarty arrested a suspect for possession of marijuana in a traffic vehicle.
The following day Sergeant Michael Hardin arrested a suspect for public drunk on Claude Street and on a traffic stop a couple was arrested for simple possession of marijuana according to Patrolman Scott Cagle’s report. Later that day two suspects were arrested, one for open container and another for false identifying information and speeding according to Patrolman Adam Campbell’s report.
Patrolman Steve McLarty’s report of March 26 indicated an arrest on Ozbirn Street for no seatbelt and driving under the influence (DUI 1st).
