Judge Bill McKenzie explained to a defendant who was out on bond for a felony why his case would be held in a higher court during Batesville Municipal Court Wednesday.
Corlando D. Davis, 21 Hill Repair, Glendora, appeared in municipal court though he bonded out prior to court for charges of aggravated domestic violence.
“Mr. Davis, you are obviously out on bond. You are charged with a felony which will be held in a higher court,” McKenzie explained.
Davis is charged with aggravated domestic violence by choking a victim at Love’s truck stop on February 18. The case will be heard in Circuit Court.
Markevious Q. Robinson, was in court for a case set for trial for careless driving. He was found guilty after a short testimony when he told the judge the reason he spun out was because his coveralls got caught on the gas pedal.
“Where you spinning tires or not?” the judge asked.
After Robinson said yes, the judge found the case proven and fined him $165.
Robinson was also in court for an initial appearance for aggravated assault by shooting Dennis Tremaine Rudd at 108 Osbirn St. in the city limits of Batesville.
Robinson argued that he needed his bond of $250,000 lowered.
“I turned myself in February 21,” Robinson explained.
“This case is a felony. Is your family going to get you legal counsel?” the judge asked.
“Yes,” Robinson answered.
“Let me explain. Due to this being a felony case, the procedures are: if a grand jury indicts you, a trial will be heard. At this time there is a probable cause hearing you can have,” the judge explained further.
Robinson still argued his bond was too high.
The judge asked the city how they felt about a bond reduction.
“We are still investigating at this time and the city is opposed to a reduction at this time,” Detective Tommy Crutcher said.
Robison’s bond reduction was denied.
