County approves four-year road plan

Panola Supervisors recently approved a four-year road plan that totals approximately $2.3 million to maintain and/or rebuild 64.3 miles of county roads.
The plan was submitted earlier this month by Panola County Road Manager Lygunnah Bean who explained that he tried to put a State-Aid road project into every supervisor district.
State-Aid projects are funded through federal and state programs and do not use local tax dollars but require a higher level of standards to qualify for the financial aid.
State Aid Roads, the supervisor district, length of road, type of work and estimated amount to be spent includes: Old Panola, District 1, 2 miles, asphalt, $180,693; Curtis, District 2, 2 miles, reclaim, $61,060; Pope-Crowder, District 3, 3 miles, asphalt, $271,040; Pope-Water Valley, District 4, 3.8 miles, asphalt, $90,346; and Old Panola, District 5, 1.2 miles, asphalt, $108,416. (Old Panola runs through both Districts 1 and 5 causing the double listing.)
In District 1, 16.9 miles of road are scheduled for maintenance in the four year plan costing a total of $420,740 or 18 percent of the total amount allocated.
Non-State-Aid roads to be  resealed include: Simon Chapel-2 miles, Hays Crossing-3 miles, Riales-3miles, Earnest Bacon-.425, Tom Floyd-1 mile and Hope Road-1 mile.
Also in District 1, one mile of DBST (rock pavement) will be put on Rooks Road.
District 2 is scheduled to receive 19 percent of the projected cost of the 4-Year Road Plan at a total of $487,680.
Non State-Aid roads to be maintained in District 2, distance and type of maintenance include: Curtis-Locke Station 1 mile, asphalt; Samuel, 1 mile, reseal; Nash, 1 mile, reclaim; James, 1 mile, reseal; Leatha Wiley, .3 mile, asphalt; Bishop, 1mile, reseal; Seven Road, 2 miles, reseal; McCain, 1 mile reseal and Belmont, 1.5 miles, asphalt.
District 3 roads are scheduled for $460,198 in maintenance for the non State Aid Roads representing 20 percent of the funds programed.
Roads, length and type of maintenance are: Chapel town, 2 miles, reseal; Asa, 2.5 miles, reseal; McNeely, .5, reclaim and DBST; Beatty, 1.2 reclaim and DBST.
District 4 is scheduled to receive $571,788 or 25 percent of the projected road maintenance cost in the four-year road plan.
Roads, length and type of maintenance include: Morthwoood, 1.5, DBST; Tramel A & B, .4, DBST; Trantham, 1.9 miles, reclaim and DBST; Barnett, 2.5, DBST; File/Murphey Ridge, .5, new construction; Phelps, 3.8, DBST.
District 5 will receive 18 percent of the total funds for maintenance or $414,416 for programed maintenance.
Roads scheduled, length and type of maintenance include: Countyline, 1, asphalt; Barnacre, 2 miles, reclaim, Waldrup, 2 miles, reclaim and DBST, River, 1 mile, reclaim; Viney Creek, 1 mile, reseal and Wilson, 1.8 miles, reseal.
