Judge Jay Westfaul denied a man’s request for a bond reduction during Batesville Municipal Court held Wednesday.
Joshua M. Cannon, 13220 Ballentine Rd., Batesville, made his first appearance in court for charges of burglary and grand larceny.
Cannon asked if his bond of $7,500 could be lowered.
“Can I tell my side?” Cannon asked.
“It’s in your best interest to stay silent. This court cannot find you guilty or not guilty,” the judge explained.
Cannon has been in jail since December 16.
Westfaul asked Cannon if he worked or owned property. Cannon told the judge he worked in Memphis making good money prior to his arrest and also owned land.
“The court doesn’t find you indigent,” the judge said.
A preliminary hearing was set for January 6.
Ann M. Robinson, 226 Gordon Dr., Batesville, was found guilty of malicious mischief after the affiant, Venton Young failed to appear to prosecute.
Terry S. Callicutt, 85 Willow Rd., Sardis, entered a guilty plea to simple possession of marijuana and was fined $443.
George Todd Jr., 128 Patton Lane, Batesville, entered a guilty plea to simple possession of marijuana and shoplifting.
D’Lirian D. Casey, 128 Patton Lane, Batesville, entered a guilty plea to simple possession of marijuana.
David W. Welch Jr., 1351 Fairmont Dr., Vinton, Va., paid cash fines of $443 in full prior to court for simple possession of marijuana.
Beverly Giles, 4435 Sardis Lake Dr., Batesville, was fined $1,146 for shoplifing from Walmart.
Brenna Choate, 4435 Sardis Lake Dr., Batesville, was fined $1,146 for shoplifting at Walmart.
Brandon Frederick, 200 Park St., Batesville, was found guilty in his abscence for uttering forgery. He was fined $368.
Tavrus K. Maxsom, 1223 Carlisle Rd., Courtland, requested to “sit it out” when the judge asked how he was going to pay his old fines of $1,563 due since November 2014.
Maxsom was sentenced to 31 days in jail with credit for the time already served.
