City judge sends stolen property case to Panola Grand Jury

Judge Bill McKenzie referred a Sardis man to the Panola Grand Jury for receiving stolen property during Wednesday’s session of Batesville Municipal Court.
Robert Rudd, 1817-B Springport, Sardis, bonded out prior to court but was referred to a higher court for receiving stolen property.
Jeremy Dillard, No. 9 Ramsey Circle, Sardis, failed to appear to answer charges for simple possession of marijuana.
Arthur D. Pollard, 7837 Curtis Rd., Batesville, had fines of $1,158 due since May 2015 and new fines of $443 for simple possession of marijuana.
Pollard failed to appear in court several times previously. The judge told him to have his fines paid in full by October 9 or spend six months in jail.
“You have to pay it or serve it,” McKenzie said.
Marchello M. Mack, 339 Greenhill, Sardis, failed to appear to answer charges for public profanity.
Xavier G. Hines, 445 Sanders Rd., Sardis, was fined $708 after entering guilty pleas to open container and driving while license suspended. He had a charge for improper equipment but the judge reduced his fine after he proved he fixed the tail light.
His fines are due within 30 days.
Dean D. Petit, 99 Northwood Dr., Batesville, was fined $1,146 after entering a guilty plea to shoplifting tools worth $259.88 from Sears.
Petit told the judge he was trying to get in rehab.
“That’s fine if you are trying to go to rehab, but that’s no excuse to steal. Having a drug or alcohol addiction is not an excuse,” the judge said.
Petit’s fines are due within 30 days or he will serve time in jail.
Kashonda L. Elliott, 195 Arnold Dr., Starkville, failed to appear to answer shoplifting charges. Al Williams Bonding was notified.
D’Lirian D. Casey, 231 Van Voris, Batesville, was fined $1,146 after entering a guilty plea to shoplifting beer, chips, cigarettes and other items from Kangaroo.
“We didn’t take them, they were given to us,” Casey told the judge.
An employee from Kangaroo was previously charged with felony embezzlement helping others shoplift $1,000 worth of items from the gas station.
Anquinisha M. Brown, 1748 John Branch Rd., Batesville, failed to appear to answer contempt of court-old fines of $1,778 due since July 2014. Alright Bonding was notified.
Timothy Edwards, 86 Henryway Rd., Sardis, had a careless driving charge remanded to the files at the request of Officer Ruby Myers who issued the ticket.
Monika Wright, 117 Williams St., Batesville, had a stop sign violation remanded to the files for six months at the recommendation of the city if Wright stays out of trouble.
Everette Mixon, 210 Georgia St., Batesville, had a simple assault charge remanded to the files after an agreement between the city’s prosecuting attorney and the affiant who wished to remand the charges.
