Kicking off the Como Public Library’s Summer Reading Program was the Rising Star Fife and Drum Band, who led a parade in Downtown Como last Friday. Sharde Thomas, granddaughter of famed musician Otha Turner, was joined by drummers Robert Patterson (Otha’s great-grandson, left) and Bill Turner (Otha’s grandson, right). The parade ended at the library, where children and adults enjoyed refreshments, signed up for the summer program, and received free books. See additional photo, page A3.
