Political signs placed on public right-of-way and city property will be removed by Batesville Code Office employees.

Batesville’s mayor and aldermen told Code Office Administrator Pam Comer to have employees remove the signs.

“Signs will be in the back end of the trucks,” Comer said, “for a certain amount of time.
The city will not require a $300 sign bond from candidates. During last Tuesday’s meeting aldermen unanimously approved Comer’s recommendation to declare a moratorium on the permit ordinance enacted prior to the 2011 elections in an attempt to give candidates an incentive to pick up their signs before reclaiming the $300 bond.

“You’re not going to throw them in the garbage can; you’re going put them in the back of your truck so these people can come get them and put them where they are supposed to be,” Alderman Stan Harrison said.

“Or they can come get them and put them right back where they were,” quipped Alderman Bill Dugger.

“And we’ll pick them up again,” Comer said.
