Having taken over three weeks off for Christmas break, the North Delta Lady Green Wave looked to shake off some rust as they hosted Clarksdale Lee Tuesday night in a District 1-AA tilt.
   Trailing 6-5 after one quarter of play, it did not take long for North Delta to find their rhythm in the second quarter by outscoring the Lady Phillies 17-4 in the stanza to take a 22-10 lead at halftime before cruising to a 39-21 victory.

Senior Lauren Snyder paced the Waves with 11 points and six steals to go along with five rebounds. Fellow senior Shelby Province added 10 points and seven boards as North Delta improved to 9-4 and 3-2 in division play.

Following a three-pointer by Ginger Stephens that tied the contest at 10- with 5:57 left in the half, North Delta held Lee scoreless over the next 14 minutes while going on a 20-0 run.
Stephens’ two free throws, coupled with a lay up by Snyder off a Sarah Johnson steal, increased North Delta’s lead to 18-10. Anna Lloyd and Snyder added a pair of lay ups off back-to-back turnovers to end the half.

North Delta continued to pour it on as the second half got underway when Stephens knocked down a short jumper followed by Snyder draining a three-ball from the left side to expand the margin to 29-10 at the 3:26 mark of the third quarter. Lee finally broke the scoring drought on a free throw with 47 seconds remaining in the quarter.

  Stephens provided seven points, three rebounds and one steal in the win while Lloyd chipped in with four points and four steals. Megan Bollinger also added four points and six rebounds. Lindsey Douglas contributed with two points and Janie Brasell had one point and six boards. Johnson pulled down seven rebounds to go along with four steals.

North Delta broke a modest two-game district losing streak with a victory over the Colts.
The Green Wave (4-7; 2-3) used a strong defensive effort to hold Lee ( 5-4; 0-4) to 24 percent field goal shooting.

Lee grabbed a 5-0 lead in the early stages of the first quarter before North Delta’s Will Hartzell scored five straight points to tie the contest at 5. Dennis King then connected on a pair of three-pointers to give the home team an 11-5 advantage.

Matt Spencer kept the Colts within striking range as the second quarter got underway with six straight points to narrow the North Delta lead to 15-13. That would be as close as the Colts would get in the first half as the Wave closed with five straight points to take a 20-13 lead at intermission.

North Delta managed two field goals in the third quarter to take a slim 24-21 lead in the final quarter but outscored the Colts 13-5 in the fourth quarter behind six points from Hunter Baker and a big three-pointer from Will Kidder to secure the victory.

King and Baker paved the way for North Delta with eight points each while Hartzell added seven. Ridge Simmerman followed with six points. Cole Devazier and Bailey Sullivant supplied two points and Joseph Wright finished with one point.

Both North Delta junior high quads lost close contests and the girls fell 26-20 while the boys lost 27-25.

Ally Alford led the Lady Waves in scoring with seven points while Payton Scott added four. Mary Emily Morris tallied three points with Faith Bollinger, Emy Cay Donaldson and Sale Stennett each added two points.

On the boys side, Alex Greenlee led North Delta with eight points followed by Luke Lewis with six. Payton Neal chipped in with five and Cole Devazier added three points. Tyler Holland and Myles Garner rounded out the scoring with two and one points.

After traveling to Delta Academy last night, North Delta hosts Indianola starting at 4 p.m. with a pair of junior high games.
