Wendy Elaine Collins Bailey
SENATOBIA––Wendy Elaine Collins Bailey, 38, died Tuesday, September 9, 2014, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – DeSoto in Southaven.
Funeral services were held Friday, September 12, 2014, at Como Baptist Church with Dr. Andy Brasher officiating. Burial was in Friendship Cemetery in Como. Ray-Nowell Funeral Home – Senatobia Chapel had charge.
Bailey was born in Memphis March 18, 1976, to Frank Collins and the late Judy Mathews Sumner. She worked in banking and was a member of Como Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Millsaps College, where she earned her bachelor of science degree in biology while fulfilling her membership of the Tri-Delta Sorority. She continued her education by attending graduate school at Union University where she earned her MBA. She was a self-taught artist.
Survivors include: her father and step-mother, Frank and Leslie Collins; her step-father, Mike Sumner; two sisters, Courtney Collins Blair of Como and Danielle Collins of Senatobia; her step-sister, Sassy Dyer of Jackson, Tenn; her step-brother, Nick Sumner of Nashville; her grandmother, Jerlean Mathews of Como.
John Shuford Dickins III
A memorial service for John Shuford Dickins III, formerly of Batesville,
will be held Tuesday, September 16 at Winter Park Presbyterian Church in
Wilmington, North Carolina. Dickins is an uncle of Stacy Dickins of
Batesville.
Born in Batesville July 6, 1940, he was the son of the late John Shuford
Dickins Jr. and Paulene (Polly) Zorah Dickins.
A Mississippi State graduate in mechanical engineering, he joined Dupont
following graduation where he was employed for the next 40+ years which led
to several patents in the area of textile manufacturing.
Other than being a grandfather, upon retiring he also used his time with
Habitat for Humanity, was an elder at Winter Park Presbyterian Church,
attended Dupont retirees’ breakfast and monthly poker nights.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Geraldine (Jerri) Dickins;
daughters, Holli Dickins Jones (George), Leigh Anne Wimbish (Mike); son John
Shuford Dickins IV (Pam); sisters Harriet Westmoreland and Edna Golden; a
brother, Bill Dickins of Oxford and six grandchildren.
A private entombment will be held September 16 at Oleanader Memorial
Gardens.
Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association or Habitat for
Humanity.
Lee O. Jones Jr.
SARDIS––Lee O. Jones Jr., 73, formerly of Memphis, died Wednesday, September 10, 2014, in Oxford.
Services were held Saturday at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial with military honors was held at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Jones was a retired Chief Petty Officer, U.S. Navy and retired from the Department of Defense. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, United States Submarine Veterans and a member of The Fleet Reserve Association.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Jones.
Survivors include: two stepdaughters, Terry Hensley of Atoka, Tenn. and Rena Jones of Southaven; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
Mathello Burgland Legge
Mathello Burgland Legge, 75, passed away Sept. 6, 2014 at the Senatobia Convalescent Center. She was preceded in death by her son Mitch Legge. She leaves her daughter, Debra Abernathy of Batesville; her son Bill Legge (Laura) of Senatobia; grandchildren, Samantha Abernathy Moore (Phillip), Ali Grace Abernathy, Byron Milam (Marissa), Courtney Scoggins (Bryan) and her great grandchildren, Hunter, Tyler and Brady Scoggins, Zach Milam, Brent Milam and Peyton Moore.
Mathello was a retired insurance agent. She was a dedicated Christian lady who was a friend to all. Everyone who knew her felt her love, loyalty, and willingness to help. Her entire life was spent tirelessly devoted to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
She will be remembered by her friends and family as a Godly, selfless person. In her adult years, she loved to ride her bicycle, roller skate, and entertain with her delicious cooking.
Memorials may be sent to the Senatobia Church of Christ where she was a member. Services were held Tuesday, September 9 at the Senatobia Church of Christ. Burial was in Senatobia Memorial Cemetery. Pate-Jones Funeral Home in Senatobia had charge of the arrangements.
Grace Currier Smith
Mary Grace Currier Smith, 82, died Wednesday, September 10, 2014.
Services were held Saturday at First United Methodist Church. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.
Mrs. Smith, born April 17, 1932, to the late Bill and Lillie Currier of Myrtle, graduated from Baptist Memorial School of Nursing in Memphis as a registered nurse. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was a nurse for Dr. Deck Stone for over 40 years at South Panola Hospital, which later became Parkview Clinic.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Joseph “Jack” Smith.
Survivors include: one daughter, Vicki Veazey of Brandon; two sons, Mike Smith of Batesville and Bob Smith of Hernando; one sister, Fannie Zue Moore of Collierville; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 797, Batesville, Miss. 38606.
Robert “Charley” Taylor
ENID––Robert “Charley” Taylor, 63, died Thursday, September 11, 2014.
Visitation will be held Thursday, September 18, 2014 from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Newsom Funeral Home Chapel with a memorial service to follow at 7 p.m.
Mr, Taylor was a retired Sheriff Deputy of Washoe County in Reno, Nev., a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church and U.S. Navy Veteran of the Vietnam Conflict.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Christie Taylor, and his parents William and Mattie Taylor.
He is survived by two daughters Rebecca Taylor Wells of Byhalia and Stacy Mae Taylor of Starkville; one sister Sylvia Bishop of Mantachie; and one brother Johnnie Taylor of Enid.
Marcus Dean Williams
BATESVILLE–Funeral services for Marcus Dean Williams, 92, were Sunday at Batesville First United Methodist Church. Mr. Williams died Thursday, September 11 at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
Born January 18, 1922, in Prentiss County, he was the son of the late John W. and Cassie Williams.
A World War II veteran, he served as a co-pilot in the Army Air Corps, flying missions over Germany. A graduate of Mississippi State University, he was a civil engineer. From 1976 to 1980 he served as State Aid Engineer with MDOT in Jackson. He taught for many years at Northwest Community College. He was a member of VFW Post 4968 and the Jim Bates Bible Class at Batesville First United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marguerite Braddock Williams, and by his daughters Rita Jean Howell and Betty Gail Kalich; three grandchildren, Thomas Murphree, Elizabeth Tardio and Sam Kalich; and his sister, Ruby Ellen Magers of Tupelo.
