A resident at the Martin Luther King Jr. Drive Panola Apartments told police that he and his wife returned home about 2:36 a.m. Sunday morning and noticed a front window open and blinds pushed back, Batesville Police Department Patrolman Nick Johnson’s report stated.

Closer inspection revealed that the window screens had been removed. Inside, as Lt. Billy Sossaman and Detective Capt. Paul Shivers joined the patrolman at the scene, the couple discovered that a jewelry box was missing and the removable face to the resident’s truck radio, the report states.

The rear passenger side window of the resident’s truck had been shattered, the dashboard torn apart in an apparent attempt to remove the radio. The resident said that his truck had also been the target of thieves in an August 3 burglary when $970 was stolen, according to Johnson’s report.

The Northpark Apartments resident told police that when she entered her apartment about 8:40 a.m. Sunday morning she found items out of place and her living room television missing, BPD Lt. John Miller’s report states. The victim said that she had left home about 5 p.m. Saturday.

The 46-inch, flat screen Emerson TV was initially believed to be the only item taken by the burglars. The victim later told police that five bottles of children’s medication were also missing. The medication had been stored in the refrigerator, Miller’s report stated. The TV was valued at $784.
