Batesville will see a rise in population this weekend as the MRA (Mud Racing Association) participants will be in town tonight and tomorrow.
Lake Susie Dirt Track, down Highway 6 West, 681 Lake Susie Road, is the chosen venue for this sanctioned race in the mud bog.
“There will be an extra 3,000 to 5,000 people in town this weekend,” said owner Susan Camp. “Some of the hotels are already full. This will be great business for the restaurants and stores.”
Lake Susie holds a monthly dirt track race, but gladly opened up the track for this special event.
About 20 to 30 professional mud racers are expected to participate in the points events. Two NHRA (National Hot Rod Association) vehicles will also be at the race.
“It will be lots of fun,” Camp said. “Bring your lawn chairs.”
Tonight the mud pit opens at 6 p.m.
Tomorrow is a full day starting at 9 a.m. Xtreme Outlaw Wrestling starts at 3 p.m. The races start at 6 p.m. and the fireworks show will be at 9 p.m.
Many arts and crafts will also be available along with concessions.
Announcer is Big Don Talk from Texas.
Wristbands for both days are $25 for ages 10 and up. Children 6-9 is $5 each day and children +5 and under are free.
This is the only time the MRA will be at Lake Susie this year, but they are planning on possibly two events next year, according to Camp.
