There will be additional food trailers on Highway 6, McDonald’s is going to get bigger and Backyard Burgers has a new color scheme coming following action of Batesville Planning Commission last Monday night.

At their monthly meeting commissioners also heard and saw plans presented by  Danny Holland and Dennis Mangrum for use of the old Compress Building, allowed a variance for C-Spire’s  new sign at Covenant Crossing and agreed to a change in plans for the pizza business to be located on Vick Street at Highway 6.

Commissioners are not going to insist McDonalds include sidewalks in their new plans with Commission Administrator Pam Comer stating, “We don’t want to promote foot traffic on Highway 6 east.”

The congested intersection will soon see the former Boonie Mae’s Building torn down along with the existing McDonalds building to form one lot for McDonalds to expand upon. Joe Wiseman with Harris and Associates estimated a 90-day turnaround from start to finish.

A conditional use permit was granted to Wesley Price who plans to put a Cajun food trailer in the parking area near Fred’s on Highway 6 at Midtown Shopping Center.

Price said he would not be serving crawfish in competition with a trailer located nearby.

Commissioners approved site plans presented contingent upon additional plans of parking, lighting and landscaping for the former Compress Warehouse. The drawing presented was designed by Angela Clanton who is assisting with some of Batesville’s Main Street projects.
The Batesville Planning Commission meets the fourth Monday of each month at 5 p.m. at City Hall.
