City judge sends four to grand jury on drug charges

A Sardis woman asked Judge Jay Westfaul what she should do about an affiant who presses charges on several people but never comes to court.

Chesley Daugherty, 18713 Hwy. 51 South, Sardis, was found not guilty of domestic violence-simple assault during Batesville Municipal Court Wednesday after affiant Zachery Pitcock failed to appear to prosecute.

The city’s court clerk told the judge the numbers she had for the affiant were not in service and she could not reach him.

“He has pressed charges on others and does not show up. How do we get this to stop?” asked Daugherty.

The judge told the defendant he could not give her legal advice but she could ask a lawyer.
Christopher Brown Jr., Broadway St., Batesville, was bound over to the grand jury for felony DUI, driving while license suspended, possession of controlled substance and no seat belt.
Quendez K. Robinson, 201 Lamar Thomas Rd., Batesville, was referred to the grand jury for felony possession of controlled substance.

Sedrick Webb, 110 Williams St., Batesville, was bound over to the grand jury for felony possession of controlled substance.

Arlando Webb, 110 Williams St., was bound over to the grand jury for felony possession of controlled substance with intent and careless driving.

Rodriques A. Taylor, 101 Goodhaven, Batesville, entered a guilty plea to possession of marijuana. He was fined $428.

Jayunn Whitten, 117 Hoskins, Batesville, entered a guilty plea to possession of marijuana and was fined $428.

Sharonda Harris, 201 Patton Lane, Batesville, had a trial set for June 26 for discharging a firearm in city limits. Harris told the judge she shot out of self defense.

Michael J. Harris, 4060 Curtis Rd., Batesville, paid a cash fine of $210 in full prior to court for public drunk.

Jessica Baker, 12260-B Pope-Water Valley Road, Water Valley, entered a guilty plea to DUI and improper equipment. She had the improper equipment charge remanded after she told the judge she fixed the bulb in her tail light. She was fined $779.

During a case set for trial Ashley Hawkins was found guilty in her absence for leaving the scene of an accident after testimony from Officer Merriman.

Halle A. Lloyd, 335 Ranchette Acres, Batesville, had charges of domestic violence-simple assault remanded to the files.

Desmond Hill, 6716 Curtis Rd., Batesville, had charges of domestic violence-simple assault remanded to the files.

Tickets
Jerome Q. Ales, 960 Trantham Rd., Batesville, was fined $381 for driving while license suspended.

Clay A. Harbour, 230 Hickory Lane, Batesville, was fined $605 for no proof of insurance.
Latoya Fondren, 18 Earnestine Rd., Sardis, was fined $1,198 for no proof of insurance, no tag, driving while license suspended and expired tag.
