Stanley Crow

WATER VALLEY–Stanley Crow, longtime band director from Water Valley, died at his home April 8, 2013. 

Born in Ruleville, to the late James Eldon and Evie Lou Smith Crow, he was a retired band director who served his entire career in Water Valley.  He was the music director for the Water Valley Community Band, First Baptist Church Handbell Choir, and a charter member of the Oxford Community Band. He also served as past president of Lions Club, I-55 Band, North East MS Band Director’s Association, and was a coordinator between the Lions Club and the MS Lions All State Band.

In his retirement, he traveled the state performing instrument repairs and mentoring young band directors until his recent illness. He was a deacon at First Baptist Church.

Services were April 11 at First Baptist Church in Water Valley, with Dr. Randy Bain officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Becky Crow of Water Valley; one son, Michael J. Crow, of Oxford.

The Water Valley Lion’s Club has established a memorial fund in memory of Stan Crow to endow a Lions Band Chair for future Lions Band Students. Memorials may be made to Water Valley Lions Club Memorial Fund, Water Valley First Baptist Church Handbells or the American Cancer Society.
Seven Oaks Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Algie Ree Gordon

SARDIS –– Algie Ree Gordon, 87, died Sunday, April 7, 2013, at her residence.

Services will be held Saturday, April 13, at Cooley’s Mortuary Chapel in Batesville at 2 p.m. with Rev. Theodoric Stephen officiating.Visitation is scheduled Friday, April 12, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., also at Cooley’s Mortuary.

Gordon was born December 7, 1925, in Batesville to the late Johnny Murphy and the late Ethel Lee. She was a housewife and a member of Shiloh CME?Church.

Survivors include six sons, Calvin Gordon, James Gordon and Dennis Gordon, all of Sardis, Square Gordon and Billy Gordon, both of Terryoaks, Ind. and Anthony Gordon of Chicago; four daughters, Velma Ree Baker, May F. Gordon and Virginia Gordon, all of Chicago and Amy D. Gordon of Ourway, Ohio and 22 grandchildren.

William L. Hall

ENID –– William L. Hall, 48, died Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at his home in Enid.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 15, 2013 at the Willow Springs Assembly of God Church, Enid, with Reverend Tommy Darby and Reverend Billy Gordon officiating.  Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Enid. Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the church.

Mr. Hall was born to Sarah Louise Pittman and Elmer Edward Hall, Sr. in Memphis, TN on January 19, 1965.  He was a member of the Willow Springs Assembly of God Church in Enid, MS. Hall enjoyed playing the guitar, singing and drawing. He spent lots of time disassembling and reassembling anything he could.

Survivors include: his mother Sarah Louise Pittman Darby of Enid;  his wife, Lisa Hall of Tuckerton, N.J.; one daughter, Crystal Marie Hall of Tuckerton; four sisters, Sarah Ann Riggs of Enid, Delner Hall, Silvia Ann Hall, Donney Marie Hall all of Philadelphia, Pa.; four brothers, Eddie Hall of Strayhorn, George Hall  and John Hall both of Philadelphia, Thomas Hall of Courtland; and two grandchildren.

Linda W. Martin

MEMPHIS – Linda W. Martin, 60, died Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Methodist South Hospital in Memphis.
Services will be held at noon Saturday, April 13, at St. James Church of God in Christ in Como with burial in Senatobia Memorial Cemetery. Pate-Jones Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Martin was born October 12, 1952 to Frank and Alsie L. Ward.  She was a faithful member of Moore Memorial COGIC in Memphis and Faith Temple COGIC in Como. 
 
Survivors include her husband of 35 years, Robert Martin; three children, Mario Martin, Tiffany Martin and Barbara Martin, all of Memphis; her mother, Alise L. Ward; four sisters, Barbara Norwood, Glendora Beard, Sharon Ward, and Jackie Doyle; four brothers, Rufus Norwood, Frank Ward Jr., Alvon Steven Ward, and Vincent Ward; and four adopted children.

Kimberly “Kim” McCullar

 Southaven– Kimberly “Kim” McCullar, 51, died Thursday, April 4, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – Desoto.

Services were held Monday at Pate-Jones Funeral Home in Senatobia.
She attended  Little Texas Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, Preston D. Miller.

Survivors include: her mother, Dorothy G. Miller of Pine Ridge, S.D.; one sister, Natalie Proffett of Pine Ridge, S.D. and her brother, Preston Miller Jr. of St. Jo, Texas.

Linda Golden Partridge

OXFORD — Linda Golden Partridge, 72, died Monday, April 8, 2013 at her residence. She was the mother of Allison Jordan McCord of Batesville.

Memorial services will be held Sunday at First Presbyterian Church in Oxford, with Rev. John Semmes officiating. Visitation was held the day of service at the church in the fellowship hall. A private burial was held preceding the memorial service. Waller Funeral Home had charge.

Partridge was born in Denver and moved to Canton where she grew up. She received her bachelor of arts degree in education from the University of Mississippi and returned to Canton to begin her teaching career as a ninth grade English teacher in 1963. She received her Master’s degree in elementary education from Mississippi State University.

She began teaching fifth grade at Oxford Elementary in 1969 and continued to teach until her retirement in 2003.

She was actively involved in the food pantry, More than a Meal and First Presbyterian Church. She served as an elder, a member of the choir, leader of her circle, Sunday School and Bible School volunteer at First Presbyterian.

Survivors in addition to her daughter in Batesville include: a daughter, Ashley Jordan Hill of Oxford; a brother, James Reginald Golden Jr. of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a stepdaughter, Susan Shaw of Oxford and stepson, Steve Partridge of Richardson, TX and 10 grandchildren.

Jimmy Walls

GRENADA — Jimmy Walls, 64, formerly of Sardis, died Thursday, April 4, 2013, at Grenada Lake Center. Services were held Wednesday at Henderson Funeral Home. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Waller, born in Sardis Aug. 22, 1948, to the late Johnny Walls and Rachel Henderson Walls, was a member of Mt. Zion M.B. Church and was a construction worker. He attended North Panola High School in Sardis.

Survivors include: four daughters, Jimi Blackburn, Rebecca Blackburn, Jaerocky Blackburn, Ocherrelle Blackburn, all of Batesville; two sons, A.L. Williams Blackburn of Batesville and Garry Sanders of Milwaukee; three sisters, Virginia Rudd and Diane Walls of Milwaukee and Idell Walls of Sardis; four brothers, James Walls and William Walls of Chicago, Clarence Walls of Grenada and Larry Walls of Sardis.

Shavonne Deshavette Williams

BATESVILLE–Shavonne Deshavette Williams, 28, died March 31, 2013, at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis.

Services will be held Saturday, April 13 at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew M.B. Church in Sardis. Rev. Matthew R. Jackson will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary.

Williams, born Dec. 19, 1984, in Sardis, to Yvonne Williams, was a member of Brown Baptist Church.
Survivors include: five children, Tayvion Williams, Quintavious Williams, Taniyah Williams, Ikeria Williams and Tymarion Williams; her mother Yvonne Williams; one sister, Yosheya Williams of Memphis; her grandmother, Edna L. Williams of Batesville.
