Rose Mary Berry

SARDIS – Rose Mary Berry, 60, died Sunday, April 15, 2012, at Graceland Care Center of Oxford.

Services were held Wednesday, April 18, at Ray-Nowell Funeral Home with interment in Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Sardis. Hal Johnson officiated. Ray-Nowell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Berry, born November 19, 1951, to the late Oscar Oswalt and Daisy Gray Oswalt, graduated from Rosedale High School and was an assistant special ED teacher at Como Elementary.

Survivors include her husband, Danny Berry of Sardis; one daughter, Angela Conn of Bartlett, Tenn.; two sisters, Helen Little and Mamie Oswalt, both of Sardis; one brother, Jewel Oswalt of Amory and six grandchildren.

The family requests memorials be sent to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis.

Claudie Mae Bibbs

BATESVILLE– Claudie Mae Bibbs, 85, died Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.

Services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at New Enon M.B. Church in Batesville. Pastor Robert Vaughn will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary.

Bibbs, born January 19, 1927, in Taylor, to the late Stanford Rockette and Gensie Rockette, was a homemaker and a member of South Hopewell M.B. Church in Taylor.

Survivors include: three sons, Billy Bibbs, James Bibbs and Gene Bibbs, all of Batesville; one brother, Hosie “Dick” Rockette of Batesville; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Malachi Carter

    SARDIS – Malachi Carter,71, died Wednesday, April 11, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi.

Services will be held Saturday, April 21, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Zion M.B. Church in Sardis with Pastor Zannie Leland Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Walton Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation is scheduled on Friday, April 20, at Cooley’s Mortuary from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Carter, born October 21, 1940 in Sardis to the late Joe Carter Sr. and Marri MoseEtta Nunley, attended Friars Point Elementary and was a member of Walton Chapel C.M.E. Church in Sardis. He was a retired school teacher for Oakland Elementary School and Lamberth Elementary School. He had also worked as a factory worker.

Survivors include five sisters, Mattie Brownlee of Batesville, Annette Carter Pierce of Fayette, Nennie C. Reed of Coldwater, Edna Jackson of Preston and Joyce Walker of Memphis; and four brothers, Joe Carter, Jr., Frank Carter, Ottowa E. Carter and Albert Carter, all of Sardis.

Louise Jones McNeese

SLEDGE – Louise Jones McNeese, 81, died Tuesday, April 17, 2012.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday at Mt. Gillion M.B. Church. Rev. Mark Connor will officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. Gillion M.B. Church Cemetery.

McNeese was a member of Mt. Gillion M.B. Church where she was on the Mother Board. She was a retired center director for ICS Headstart.

Geraldine Moore

BATESVILLE – Geraldine Moore, 55, died Friday, April 13, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services will be held Friday, April 20, at 1 p.m. at Macedonia M.B. Church in Batesville with Pastor Zannie Leland Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Moore was born March 3, 1957, in Sardis to Ulyses Moore and Ethel Bobo Moore. She was a cook for Mr. Jiffy.

Survivors include her mother, Ethel Moore of Batesville; a daughter, Tamiko Thomas of Batesville; a son, LaMarko Moore, also of Batesville; two sisters, Annie Davis and Hester Taylor, both of Sardis; two brothers, A.Z. Moore and William Moore, both of Batesville; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Lawrence S. Robison Jr.

BATESVILLE – Lawrence S. Robison Jr., 92, died Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.

Services were held Thursday the Batesville Presbyterian Church. Rev. Steve Pointon officiated. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Robison, born Sept. 29, 1919, in Batesville, to the late Alice Wooten Robison and Lawrence S. Robison Sr., was a member of Batesville Presbyterian Church. He was employed with the U.S. Postal service for 36 years where he served as a mail carrier. He was a veteran of the United States Army during WWII.

Survivors include: his wife of 71 years, Sallie S. Robison of Batesville; two sons, Lawrence S. Robison III of Garner, N.C., Rocky C. Robison of Teasdale; one daughter, Sandra Robison Davenport of Birmingham; one sister, Betty Robison Carpenter of Batesville; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The family asks that memorials be sent to The Batesville Presbyterian Church, 121 Eureka St., Batesville, Miss. 38606.

Barbara Elizabeth Tate


BATESVILLE – Barbara Elizabeth Tate, 72, died Monday, April 16, 2012, at her residence.

Services were held Wednesday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Blocker Cemetery in Olive Branch. Rev. Rusty Miller officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Tate, born August 17, 1939 to the late Walter Albert and Elizabeth Mae Angell in Memphis, retired from Wal-Mart after 20 years of employment. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and worked as a library volunteer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, W.M. Tate; her son, Randy James Tate.

Survivors include, two daughters, Dana Lynn Hood of Batesville and Amy Jo Ross of Erie, Pa.; one sister, Sue Angell Menard of West Memphis, Ark.; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
