BATESVILLE–John Randall Alexander, 50, of Batesville, died April 5, 2012 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Wells Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery. 

Born March 11, 1962  to James and Ruby Pittman Alexander, he was a carpenter by trade. He was a Pentecostal.

Survivors include his daughter, Rachael Tutor of Courtland; son, Randall Tutor of Batesville; mother, Ruby Pittman Scruggs of Courtland; father, James Alexander of Charleston; three sisters, Mary Alexander Little of Crowder, Debbie Alexander Pittman of Batesville, Robin Alexander Anderson of Courtland; and three brothers, James Jeffery Alexander and Kimball Alexander, both of Batesville, and Patrick Scruggs of Courtland.

BATESVILLE–Funeral services were held Sunday, April 1, 2012 at Wells Funeral Home Chapel for Bonita Duncan Burns, 54, widow of Rocky Lewis Burns.

Mrs. Burns, a homemaker, died March 30 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven.

Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park.

Born February 14, 1958 in Memphis, she was the daughter of the late Jerry and Shirley Edmiston Duncan.

She is survived by three daughters, Margie Burns Cosby of Charleston, Shannon Burns Hussein and Melanie Burns, both of Southaven; her sister, Jacinda Duncan Faucett of Tupelo; her brother, Ronnie Duncan of Southaven; four grandchildren.

LEXINGTON–Funeral services were held March 31, 2012 for Walter Cale Byrd, 73, who died March 27 at Greenwood-Leflore Hospital in Greenwood. He was the brother of Ellis Byrd of Batesville.

Services were held at Hebron Methodist Church near Lexington, with burial in the church cemetery.

The son of Victor and Annie Mae Wigley Byrd, he was a graduate of Lexington High School and Mississippi State University where he studied industrial arts. He was a custom woodworker.

Survivors, in addition to his brother, include his wife, Ann Byrd, of Lexington; his daughter, Rebecca Byrd Patterson of Greenwood; two sisters, Bernice B. Brooks of Senatobia and Hazel B. McBride of Winona; and two grandchildren.

ENID–Jerry Boe Estridge, 62, died April 5, 2012 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. A graveside service was held Monday at Bethel Cemetery in Enid, with the Rev. Rayford Ables officiating. Wells Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

He was born February 23, 1950 to the late Vernon Boe and Mabel Epps Estridge. He was retired from the Mississippi Highway Patrol after 25 years of service. An avid hunter, he also enjoyed fishing and golf.

His survivors include his wife, Sophea San Estridge of Enid; daughter Paige Estridge Whitten of Courtland; sons Eric Estridge of Batesville and Jay Estridge of Brandon; four grandchildren.

CHARLESTON–Hubert R. Fisher, 97, widower of Edna Erwin Fisher, died Aprill 6, 2012 at the Charleston Nursing Home.

Funeral Services were Monday at the First Baptist Church in Charleston, with Reverend Roy Hartzell and Reverend John Price officiating. Interment was in Magnolia Garden.

Mr. Fisher was born December 8, 1914 in Glendora to Dennis and Mabel Longmire Fisher. He was a retired insurance salesman with National Life Insurance Company. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Charleston.

 SARDIS–Thomas Jean Gipson Jones, 53, died Monday, April 2, 2012, at her residence in Sardis.

A native of Panola County, she was the widow of the Rev. James Curtis Jones and was the daughter of the late Tom Gipson and Agnes Daniel Gipson. She was a member of New Rock Hill MB Church in Sardis where she served as an associate minister. She was a retired employee of John Kyle State Park.

Services were Saturday, April 7 at New Rock Hill MB Church. Rev. Charles Becton officiated. Burial was in St. Peter Cemetery in Batesville. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Sardis had charge of the arrangements.

She is survived by three sisters – Sammie L. Jefferson, Ruby Leach, and Lydia Spain; and four brothers – Clarence Gipson, John Gipson, Lorenzo Gipson, and Douglas Gipson.
