Monday shooting

Batesville police officer Ruby Meyers joined family members attempting to render assistance to the shooting victim as paramedics arrive. The victim, identified as Jeremy Wright, was transported to the Med by helicopter.

A shooting around noon on Vance Street has left a man seriously injured.

The victim has been tentatively identified as Jeremy Wright, 23, of 116 Cole Drive in Batesville.

According to witnesses, ten or more shots were fired in rapid succession, felling Wright at 132 Vance Street. Wright was transported by ambulance to nearby Patton Lane Park where he was transferred to an Air Evac Lifeteam helicopter to be carried to the Med. One source at the scene said that Wright suffered a gunshot wound to the head.

Shell casings were scattered about the yard at 132 Vance and down the street toward Van Voris Street. Police stretched crime scene tape along the street where the shell casings were found. Witnesses also reported having heard gunfire during the weekend.

At 12:32, responding police officers had gained entry to a house across the street on Vance and had taken at least one person in custody. Shortly afterwards, two more people were taken into custody at the home.
