Letter to the editor

Willing working person finds options narrowed, good jobs scarce


I’m so happy about the Job Corps Center doing well. I worked in sewing factories in this area, and made a good living. Those jobs are gone. Since I am 55-year-old woman. I can’t learn a trade at the center.

Whenever I travel on I-55, I also get to see that beautiful fish hatchery on Enid Lake.

It has a wonderful, forget- -the-cost, copper roof. They don’t want people to work there, they want volunteers. The government spared no expense building it, but they cannot pay a person to work there.

But that’s O.K. I can work as a waitress and stay on my feet day or night. I can also work the midnight shift at a convenience store and risk my life for minimum wage. I stopped being a cashier in February because of the constant ugly talk. I will be all right as long as my arthritis lets me bend to pick up cans.
