COMO – Lillie Mae Mitchell, 94, died Thursday, November 3, 2011, at her residence.

Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Hammond Hill M.B. Church. Burial will be in Hammond Hill Church Cemetery. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home has charge.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawer Mitchell.

Survivors include: one daughter, Willie Mae Mitchell of Como; one son, Henry Mitchell of Chicago and 11 grandchildren.

KOSCIUSKO – Helen Pauline Booth Shumaker, 90, died Monday, October 31, 2011, at her daughter’s residence, in Batesville.

Services were held Wednesday at Jordan Funeral Home. Burial was in Kosciusko City Cemetery. Rev. Don Cook of Carthage officiated the ceremony.  Jordan Funeral Home had charge.

Shumaker, born to Escar L. Myrtia Reynolds Booth, was a 1938, graduate of Kosciusko High School and her father, E.L. Booth, who was Superintendent of the Kosciusko City Schools, at that time signed her diploma. She was a 1942 graduate of Millsaps College with a B.S. in Spanish and held graduate degrees from Mississippi State University in various majors.

She was a career teacher with 28 years of those being served in the Attala County School System teaching a wide variety of curriculums as well as taught adult basic education. She served on numerous State Department of Education commitees at one time.

She was president of the Retired Teachers of Attala County for a number of years as well as served as Regent of the Samuel Hammond Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She headed the Attala County Literary Program and was active in the American Legion, Ladies Auxiliary and the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

She along with her husband were charter members of Parkway Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for a number of years as well as played piano for the Adult Department.

Survivors include: daughters, Rebecca Grantham of Batesville and Shelia Pumphrey of Kosciusko; sons Tim Tyler of Duck Hill and Buddy Shumaker of Corinth; eight grandchildren and numerous  great-grandchildren.

SLEDGE – Evoker Wright Jr., 76, died Monday, November 7, 2011, at Quitman County Hospital in Marks.

Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Phillips M.B. Church in Sledge. Pastor Larry Cozart will officiate. Burial will be in Burrel Cemetery in Falcon.  Visitation will be held today from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary and Saturday from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. at St. Phillips M.B. Church in Sledge. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.

Wright, born July 6, 1935, in Sardis, to the late Evoker Wright Sr. and Addie P. Prince Wright of Sledge, was a farmer.

Survivors along with his mother include: one daughter, Ruby Ann Pride of Memphis; three sisters, Mary Wright and Bernadine Conley, both of Sledge and Jessie Jenkins of Crossett, Ark.; three brothers, Elliott Wright of Crenshaw, Gene Earl Wright and Robert Wright, both of St. Louis; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
