Winona and North Panola have one thing in common: they both took on a 6A opponent this year. Then again, they both lost those contests.
In a crucial district game for both teams, the contest will take place at Winona tonight beginning at 7 p.m.
Winona (4-3 overall, 1-0 district) is looking to remain undefeated in the district as Palmer and Charleston take on each other in another district battle. The three teams are tied for first in the district.
A North Panola win would be an upset and just what the 0-6 Cougars need to jump start their season which is slowly dwindling away.
Ken Chandler has been coaching Winona for eight years and sports a 55-34-0 record.
North Panola and Winona met in the second round of plays in 2008 and Winona slipped by with a 14-12 win.
Winona opened the season with a 34-12 loss to Senatobia. Other losses are to Eupora 34-27 on September 2 and to 6A Grenada 28-22 September 16.
They handily defeated Independence last week in their district opener 55-6. Winona has also defeated Ackerman, J. Z. George and Kosciusko in non-district action.
North Panola is still trying to find a way to get into the end zone for a score. They have only been able to do that in one game against South Pontotoc where they scored 24 points. They have allowed 186 points.
