The Thursday Strike Out Cancer game against Grenada did not start as positive as head coach Ashleigh Hicks sketched out.

Even the middle part of the game did not go according to plans. However, the ending is just what the coach ordered as South Panola game from behind and won 6-2.

Grenada scored two runs in the top of the third and held South Panola scoreless through five innings.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Lady Tiger bats came alive as they went through the batting order and started over.

Nicole Fullilove and Caroline Dickins got on base with walks and Amanda Ivy then loaded the bases on a single. Tory Helton hit a two-RBI (run batted in) single to drive the first two home. Ivy scored on a Lindsey Calvert sacrifice-fly to center field to take a 3-2 lead.

The Lady Tigers were not finished. Lauren Calvert hit a two-RBI triple to drive home sister Lindsey and Meri Morgan Fortune who drew a walk to get on base.

Diamond Browning’s RBI single drove home Lauren Calvert for the final score of the game.

The Lady Tigers were able to hold Grenada hitless in the seventh to preserve the win.

Fullilove was the starting pitcher for the Lady Tigers and pitched 4.1 innings. She faced 18 batters, allowed five hits and two earned runs. She walked one and had one strikeout.

Helton relieved Fullilove in the fifth and got the win in 2.2 innings. She faced nine batters, allowed one hit, no runs and struck out three.

The junior varsity Lady Tigers won their game 11-0.
