The North Delta baseball team ended spring break week with a 15-5 win over Tunica.
The week did not get started on such a high note as the Green Wave lost both games in the Clarksdale Lee Tournament.
North Delta (6-6 overall, 2-4 district) lost to Desoto 6-5 in the first game and Washington School 9-2 in its second game.
Thursday, the Green Wave played a make-up non-conference game with Tunica that was delayed February 24 due to inclement weather.
The weather Thursday afternoon was perfect with the sun raising temperatures near 75 and a light breeze.
North Delta led 4-2 going into the second inning.
With two outs and two runners on, senior center fielder Michael Magee hit a three-run homer over the right center field fence to drive home Derrick Shawn and Luke Latham.
Ethan Taylor walked to get on base and scored from third on an Austin Gant single RBI (run batted in) to end scoring in the second 8-2.
Tunica scored two more runs in the third to cut the lead 8-4.
The Green Wave had a five-hit, five-run third inning to take a commanding 13-4 lead.
Bailey Guckert singled to get on and worked his way to third and stealing home for the score. John Cody Dalrymple singled to get on first, stole second and scored on a passed ball.
Magee hit a single to drive home Shawn who had singled to get on base.
Taylor singled and drove home Magee. With two outs, Gant hit a double to drive home Taylor for the final run of the inning.
North Delta was hoping not to bat in the bottom of the fifth after going ahead by 10 runs in the bottom of the fourth on a double by Shawn to drive home Dalrymple. Dalrymple got on base on an error because the left fielder dropped a pop fly.
Tunica rallied and scored a run in the top of the fifth after a triple. The ball was thrown from out field to third but went into the Green Wave dugout. It was ruled a dead ball and Tunica got the extra base which scored the run.
The Green Wave came back to the plate in bottom of fifth and Will Magee walked to get.
Magee advanced to second and got to third on a passed ball. He scored on a passed ball for the 15th run and ended the game.
Ethan Waldrip got the win, pitching four innings. William Dean relieved him in the fifth.
The Green Wave returns to action today as they host Kirk Academy in a district doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. The teams will finish the series Thursday at Kirk Academy in Grenada with varsity and junior varisty team games at 4 and 6 p.m. beginning with the Jr. varsity game.
