Batesville police are investigating a weekend burglary at King’s Grill, 104 Wood Street, and have little to go on.

That’s why they are featuring the incident as a Crime Stoppers feature of the week.

They need information.

Batesville Police Department Detective George Williford, who serves as the city’s Crime Stoppers coordinator, said the organization will pay cash for information.

The burglary occurred some time after owner Willie King closed on Saturday night, Feb. 12. When he reopened Monday morning about 7 a.m. he discovered that he had been the victim of burglars. Some of the items taken were recovered in Patton Lane Park near the store, Williford said.

Anyone who remembers seeing suspicious activity around the store or in the park during the weekend is urged to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-729-2169.

People who call Crime Stoppers do not have to give their name. The caller is given an identification number. If the information leads to an arrest, the person providing the information will receive a cash reward through the assigned identification number.

Crime Stoppers of North Central Mississippi is affiliated with the international Crime Stoppers organization. It offers cash rewards for tips that lead to arrests for crime.

Last week’s featured crime was a burglary and a series of vandalism incidents that have victimized property owners in the area near Pine Lake Drive eastern Panola County. The Panola County Sheriff’s Department is still seeking information in that investigation.

The Pine Lake burglaries and vandalism have cost one homeowner about $80,000 and others undetermined amounts. The value of the loss at King’s Grill has not been determined.
