Sporting a 22-1 record, not many teams this season have been able to stay on the court with the North Delta Junior High girls basketball team. But for one half, Kirk might have thought Friday night would have been a perfect chance to upset the defending district champions by taking a 14-12 lead at halftime
But as ESPN college football analysis Lee Corso says, “Not so fast, my friends.”
The Lady Green Wave turned up the defensive pressure in the second half by holding the Raiders to eight second half points to take a 33-22 victory.
North Delta, who’s lone loss came at the hands of Pillow back in November, was led in scoring by Julianna Morrow’s 10 points and seven steals. Erin Snider and Hastings Neal followed with eights points while Jordan Pullen and Peyton Rico had five and two points each. Snider dominated the defensive glass by pulling down 14 rebounds to go along with eight steals.
In junior high boys play, Kirk outlasted North Delta 36-19. Bradley Booth led the Green Wave with 10 points. Tyler Beard added four while Sam Copeland registered three and Bailey Sullivant had two points.
The junior high teams will finish the regular season tonight in Indianola.
The district tournament will be held in Indianola this week. Tomorrow night the North Delta Jr. High boys will take on West Memphis at 7:15. Thursday, the Jr. High girls will take on an undecided opponent at 4 p.m.
The consolation and championship games will be held on Saturday.
