State championship day information

Today is the big as the South Panola football team will end the 2010 season at the 6A State Championship game against Meridian.

The teams enter the match with identical 14-0 records, but South Panola is ranked No. 1 in the nation by Rivals.com and ride a 26-game win streak. The Tigers remain No. 3 in the USA Today poll.

This is the fourth meeting in five years between the two teams in the state championship. South Panola leads the series 2-1. Kickoff is 7 p.m. tonight in Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium in Jackson.

The Panolian has produced what has become an annual state championship special section to highlight the team’s accomplishments throughout the season.

It is inserted in today’s paper at no extra charge. Included in the section is a pull out page that fans may carry to the game and show their support by holding the signs up when the camera pans the audience.

Tailgate parking will be available for $25 for the whole day. For two days, the fee is $50.

No airhorns, video cameras, tobacco, alcohol and umbrellas will be allowed. Clappers are okay, according to MHSAA executive director Dr. Ennis Proctor.

The game will be videostreamlined live through www.psa360.com for $15.

Mississippi Public Broadcasting will televise the game on local channel 18 which is also on DirecTV. On CableOne, the game will be shown on Channel 11.

Tickets will be available at South Panola High School for $12 until noon today. At the gate, tickets are $13.
