Pickup accident claims life

By Billy Davis
A one-vehicle wreck Saturday night claimed the life of a Panola County man.
Gable Sanford Sr., 52, was pronounced dead on the scene after his pickup rolled off Cotton Plant Road, said Gracie Grant-Gulledge, Panola County coroner.

Sanford was employed as a foreman at Mastic in Batesville. He was a member of Eureka A.M.E. Zion Church.

Visitation is Friday at Cooley’s Mortuary with a funeral service planned for 2 p.m. Saturday.

Sanford was traveling alone when he veered across the road on a hilltop, said Gulledge.

She speculated that an animal, most likely a deer, could have run across the road and spooked the driver.

Gulledge said the Cotton Plant hilltop had also claimed the life of another driver, Stevie Weaver. He was driving a motorcycle September 2 when he crashed.

“It was the exact same spot,” she said.

Sanford is survived by his wife Lisa Sanford, son Kerrick Hughes, and two grandchildren.
