It’s here: magazine fresh off the press

By Rita Howell

The summer issue of The Panolian’s Batesville Magazine arrived from the printer on Thursday, causing work to cease on a production day at the newspaper’s office as staff members flipped through the eagerly-anticipated publication.

The 66-page glossy full-color magazine is the fourth produced by the newspaper staff.

It is available free at The Panolian office and at a number of locations around town.

The new magazine contains stories and photos by Panolian staff members.

Subjects of stories in the magazine include baseballl player Sam Vick (who pinch-hit for Babe Ruth), educator Cathryn Hyde, Lee Garner’s Ranch One, singer-songwriter Ricky Harpole, the historic home of Vernetta and Myrt Price, the Como WWII Prisoner of War Camp, and Tucker Manufacturing.

John Howell Sr. recounts “The McClamrock Affair,” Taylor Ivy extols the virtues of flip-flops, and Sherry Hopkins expresses her appreciation of summer in Batesville.

The magazine was edited by Madison Kilgore, the only staff member not available to greet the new publication when it arrived yesterday.

Kilgore, who married Woody Drake on Saturday, is on her honeymoon.
