South Panola’s sensational junior pitcher Sadie Bright has been named this season’s Miss Softball in Class 6A in Mississippi.
The Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) and Mississippi Association of Coaches (MAC) announced the winners of the 2024 Miss Softball awards, presented by C Spire on Monday.
The MHSAA and MAC again teamed up with C Spire to continue the awards (created in 2023) and recognize one Miss Softball and one Mr. Baseball in each of the MHSAA’s seven classifications.
All Miss Softball and Mr. Baseball winners will be recognized during the 2024 MHSAA State Championships at their respective locations – softball in Hattiesburg at the USM Softball Complex (beginning May 14) and baseball in Pearl at Trustmark Park (beginning May 21).
Recipients will also be honored at a special awards luncheon, which will also be live streamed on the NFHS Network, in the MHSAA Conference Center on Tuesday, May 28.
Bright has posted a 15-3 so far this season over 119.2 innings pitched. She has given up just 32 earned runs on 38 walks and 190 strikeouts.
“Sadie is one of the hardest working players I have coached,” said Tigers head coach Ashleigh Hicks. “She is the perfect example of a teammate. I am blessed to be able to have a front row seat and watch all that she will accomplish on and off the field.”
Bright’s terrific season has South Panola softball fans recalling the epic career of school Hall of Famer Whitney Khiinl who won the state player of the year title in both 2007 and 2008.
