The visiting Horn Lake Lady Eagles were slammed by the Lady Tigers 11-1 in five innings Thursday with the biggest improvement being the absence of errors made by the Lady Tigers. Only one error was logged after they had been struggling the last few games.

Lady Tiger head coach Ashleigh Hicks started the game with a different lineup, one used earlier from the Meridian tournament.

“One thing I saw was the girls stayed fired up the entire game. We’ve been missing our fire and desire. They started this game with that tonight.”

After getting past first inning jitters, the Lady Tigers took control of the game and never looked back.

Center fielder Christa Brown scored three runs and picked up two RBI (runs batted in). Left fielder Meredith Roberson picked up one RBI scoring two runs. Lauren Calvert, first baseman added two RBIs and scored one run.

Also picking up an RBI and a run was pinch runner Lindsey Calvert, right fielder Madison Taylor and catcher Victoria Alford. Third baseman Meredith Roberson added two RBIs.

Topping off the scoring for the Lady Tigers were second baseman Chelsea Allen and shortstop Amanda Ivy with one run each.

Seventh grader Nicole Fullilove picked up the win throwing 71 pitches in five innings and allowing three hits.

Right fielder Kristin Wade scored the only run for the Lady Eagles after she singled. Five runners were left on base.

Twenty four hours later on the road, catcher Amanda Ivy turned a bunt into a homerun to help pace the Tiger offense along with a dominating defensive performance to shut out the Charleston Lady Tigers 14-0 on Friday.

Eighth grader Diamond Browning was hot on the mound as she picked up the win throwing 90 pitches in five innings allowing two hits and striking out nine.

   With one out, the Lady Tigers took a 2-0 lead in top of the first when second baseman Chelsea Allen singled followed by Ivy’s single.

Shortstop Nicole Fullilove doubled to third base in top of third scoring the only run in the frame. Browning struck out three in the bottom of frame.

The Calvert twins, Lauren and Lindsey, added runs after Ivy’s homerun in top of the third to put the Lady Tigers up 6-0.

The bats were hot in top of the fourth when the Lady Tigers pushed Chresha Brown, Sarah Cole, Madison Taylor and Deanna Taylor across home plate to give the Lady Tigers a 10-0 lead. Browning retired three in the bottom with strikeouts.

  The pace continued in top of the fifth when Fullilove, Chresha Brown, Cole and Madison Taylor added runs to finish scoring for the Lady Tigers.

The Lady Tigers had eight hits and three errors while Charleston had two hits and 13 errors.

The tournament in Grenada on Saturday was a different story for the Lady Tigers as they were downed 7-1 in four innings by the Brandon Lady Bull Dogs in the first game.

Six runs were scored by the Lady Bulldogs in the bottom of the first and the last one was added in the bottom of the second. The Lady Tigers were scoreless until top of the third.  Second baseman Chelsea Allen doubled to left and later crossed home on an RBI double by left fielder Meredith Roberson.

Eight runners were left on bases wile xix hits and four errors were recorded for the Lady Tigers.

The Lady Bull Dogs had four hits, three earned runs, eight errors and left five on base.

The Lady Trojans from New Hope shut out the Lady Tigers 5-0 in five innings for the second game. All five runs were scored in top of the first. New Hope exited with a no-hitter win as the Lady Tigers committed one error and left one on base. Fullilove picked up the loss with 81 pitches.

On the other side, the Lady Trojans had five hits, five errors and left six on base.

 The Lady Tigers traveled to Lake Comorant last night but results were not available at press time.

The schedule for games this weekend has changed. Tonight the Lady Tigers will host Tupelo in the first district game of the year begining at 5 p.m. with the junior. varsity game.

Friday, the Lady Tigers will travel to Tupelo for the second game in the district series at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The game is played Friday instead of next Monday.

Also, Saturday, April 3, South Panola will host Southaven. There will be three games with the first starting at 11 a.m. with the jr. varsity, then varsity and jr. varsity to end the day.
