Main Street commends no smoking ordinance

The Batesville Main Street Association commends the City of Batesville Board of Aldermen’s decision to ban smoking in public places.  Statistics overwhelmingly prove the dangers of smoking and also of exposure to second-hand smoke. We appreciate the Board’s concern for the health of our citizens.

Main Street is also committed to making downtown a healthy place to be, both economically and physically.  Statistics also show that a healthy community attracts more businesses, industries, and tourism which lead to new economic growth.

Main Street board members invite you and your readers to enjoy spring with a stroll around the Downtown Square. Walk the Merchants’ walk, soak up some sun as you window shop, and relax and cool off in the shade of the gazebo. Visit with downtown merchants who are always happy to see you and get to know the new merchants that have opened up shop downtown!

Get in a few more steps by walking on down Panola Avenue and back to Church Street to enjoy Batesville’s Historic District and beautiful gardens.  It’s like a breath of fresh air.

The Board of Aldermen have set an example for all of us with this move to make our public places enjoyable for everyone. So, let’s all continue to make Batesville an even healthier place to live… and we’ll all reap the benefits!

Best regards,
