Saturday’s South Panola Lady Tigers loss can be summed up in one word, “Errors.” The Lady Tigers committed seven errors as Lake Comorant took home a 6-1 win.

In the first two games they had only three errors but added 13 in the last two games.

The Lady Tigers (2-2) had four hits while the Lady Gators had seven with three errors.

According to Head Coach Ashleigh Hicks, the team has to step up their game on offense and defense.

“We need to start working as a team,” she said. “The past two games have opened our eyes. I hope to see the team playing that I know we have.”

The Lady Gators’ bats were hot in the first inning when they scored two runs. Shortstop Alex Barrett singled to start the frame. Lady Tiger pitcher Diamond Browning struck out second baseman Alyson Dean for first out but not before Barrett stole second.

Center fielder Lauren Riley hit a single sending Barrett to third. Third baseman Andi Barrett slammed a double driving Alex Barett home and advancing Riley to third. Pitcher Jessie Holiday singled to center field, driving in Riley for a second run.

Browning struck out catcher Allison Heton for the second out and designated hitter Brittany Bradley flied out to retire the side.

In the top of the third, the Lady Gators took a 3-0 lead after Riley singled and Holiday doubled to bring Riley home.

The Lady Tigers gave up another run in the top of the fourth after left fielder Sussan Pugh doubled to left field. Dean hit a double allowing Pugh to score the fourth run.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Lady Tigers were able to avoid the shutout when center fielder Christa Brown singled. With shortstop Amanda Ivy at bat, Brown stole second. With  one out, Fortune found a hole and a singled, driving Brown home for what turned out to be the  Tigers only run of the game.

On a full count, third baseman Lauren Calvert slammed a double, sending Fortune to third. The Lady Tigers finished the frame with two pop ups.

In the top of seventh, visiting Lady Gators added two runs.

The junior varsity team fell to Lake Comorant, 3-1. The only run scored by the Lady Tigers was designated runner Olivia Taylor in te bottom of the second inning.

She came in for Lindsey Calvert, who singled and then stole second base.

The Lady Tigers will take a few days off for spring break but will be back in action when they travel to Meridian for the Clarkdale Tournament March 19-20.

On Friday the will play Poplarville at 3:30 p.m. and Vancleave at 6:30 p.m.. Saturday the Lady Tigers will play Harrison Central at 10 a.m. and Madison Central at 11:30 a.m.
