A Crenshaw police officer was undergoing surgery Monday morning at The Med in Memphis after being shot while on duty.

Authorities said Shawn Shelton, 33, was shot multiple times Sunday night when he responded to a domestic disturbance. The suspect was shot and killed, said Sheriff Otis Griffin.

Griffin did not release the name of the suspect.

Crenshaw Police Chief Paul Mills said the Miss. Highway Patrol and the Panola County Sheriff’s Department are investigating the shooting.

Mills said the shooting occurred about 10:15 p.m. Sunday.
