Batesville’s Main Street program will host a Halloween-themed “Let’s Go Walkin’” Saturday, one of several Halloween events planned locally.

Walkers of all ages are encouraged to dress in costumes for the walk, which begins at 9 a.m. at Batesville City Hall.

After the walk, children ages 10 and under can participate in “Trick or Trunk” and enjoy treats from more than 20 participating businesses, churches and civic clubs.

Other Halloween happenings include:

•A “haunted trail,” cake walk, and games from 7-10 p.m. at Cossar State Park.

•“Haunted Town” fund-raiser in Harmontown, at the Northwest Side Civic Club, from 5-9 p.m.

•A “Haunted House” at the Panola Playhouse in Sardis, from 6-9 p.m.

When Halloween morning turns to evening, Sardis, Batesville and Como will follow an 8:30 curfew that replaces the regular 10 p.m. Saturday night curfew.

 “We usually have a 9 p.m. curfew for Halloween, but it will be dark earlier,” said Batesville Police Chief Tony Jones.

“We think that (time) will give the parents and their children enough time for trick or treating,” he said.

Sardis has traditionally set the same curfew as Batesville.

“I think 8:30 will be late enough,” Como Mayor Judy Sumner said. “Our police department will be out patrolling to make sure our children and parents are safe.”

In Crenshaw, the Halloween curfews is scheduled for 9 p.m.
