ND falls to Marshall

By Brad Greer

Chase Carpenter booted field goals of 20 and 25 yards to give Marshall Academy a 6-0 victory over North Delta Friday night in Holly Springs. With the win, the Patriots improved to 4-1 and 1-0 in district 1-AA  play while the Green Wave fell to 3-2 and 1-1 in district.

Due to muddy field conditions, neither team could generate much offense on the night as both defenses controlled the game most of the night.

The Green Wave missed out on a scoring chance in the first quarter after Will Reynolds recovered a fumble on the Marshall 25 yard-line. North Delta could not take advantage of the field position as they turned the ball over on downs at the Patriot 20.

North Delta had another chance to put points on the board early in the fourth quarter when Ray Tucker picked off a pass at the Marshall 35. The Green Wave  drove to the Patriot 14 but stalled when quarterback Derick Shawn was sacked on fourth down.

North Delta will return home Friday to take on former district 1-1A foe Marvell, (Ark.) at 7:30. The Eagles enter the game with a record of 3-2 on the season after falling to Tunica 40-18 last Friday night.
