Planners of Saturday’s “Healthy You” 5K Walk/Run are expecting 100 participants, but would be happy to welcome more, according to Brenda Williams, the volunteer director who has been working on the event since January.
“We really don’t know how many people to expect,” Williams said Wednesday. “A lot of people will just show up on the day of the event.”
Williams has worked with the American Cancer Society to coordinate a “Healthy You Day” which begins with the walk/run at 8 a.m., but also includes a Health Fair and activities for children.
Walkers will take to the track at South Panola’s Dunlap Stadium. Runners will take a course that winds through the adjoining school campuses. There is still time to register. Forms are available at The Panolian or at PHNS offices (in the old Wal-Mart building on Keating Road). Forms and fees must be submitted by 5 p.m. today. Information is available from Williams at 934-2979.
The cost is $25 for those who pre-register today. Registration tomorrow will cost $30. Those who don’t pre-register are not guaranteed t-shirts or other give-aways, Williams said.
Ten exhibitors are expected at the Health Fair, to be held in the Batesville Middle School gym from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Representatives from Tri-Lakes Medical Center, the American Heart Association, the Batesville Police Department, and other healthcare agencies are participating.
Children’s activities will take place on the Batesville Middle School playground beginning at 9 a.m. The Batesville Fire Department will set up their obstacle course. There will be volleyball and basketball games, as well as other activities. Admission to the kids’ event is free.
