The second edition of Batesville Magazine is being distributed this week by The Panolian.
Three thousand copies of the magazine arrived last Friday from a printer in New Orleans.
The spring/summer issue was designed and edited by Panolian graphic designer Madison Kilgore.
It includes feature stories on NFL Super Bowl champ DeShea Townsend, historic Pope Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, blues singer Mark Massey, and the home of Batesville’s namesake Jim Bates.
In addition there is an armchair tour of historic Panola places, a story with photos of the Lomax Street home of Dave and Betty Jane Billingsley, and an account of the contributions of Charles Ray Nix to wildlife conservation.
The cover photo shows the Billingsley home at 105 Lomax.
Panolian readers have given a “thumbs up” to the magazine’s feature stories and its eye-catching design and layout.
Feedback from advertisers, too, has been favorable and a fall magazine is being planned.
“We view Batesville Magazine, when we’re planning its content and design, as a permanent and colorful record of life in the Batesville community,” said Panolian publisher John Howell Sr.
The photos and stories within the magazine were produced by Panolian staff members Myra Bean, John Howell Sr., Rupert Howell, Rita Howell, Jason Mattox, Billy Davis and Emily Williams.
Copies of the magazine are available free at a number of local businesses who advertised in the publication. Copies may also be picked up at The Panolian office.
