North Delta head girls basketball coach Phil Douglas has been selected as an assistant on the North All-Star coaching squad. There were no seniors on the North Delta girls basketball team which finished 24-12 so no players from North Delta are playing.
“This is a unique honor being chosen,” Douglas said.
Barry Finnie, head coach of Delta Academy girls, will head coach the North A team. He is formerly of Batesville.
Taylor Herron was selected to play on the North A boys All-Star team. His team finished the season 14-13 in the quarter final round of the north state tournament.
Herron averaged 17 points per game, eight rebounds and three assists. He was chosen all-District, a scholar athlete, Delta All-Tournament in the Christmas Invitational and named top performer in the Clarion-Ledger weekly list.
The All-Star games will be played Saturday, March 7 in A.E. Woods Coliseum on the campus of Mississippi College in Clinton.
The girls A game will be played at 11 a.m., followed by the boys A game at 12:45 p.m.
The 2A and 3A girls combined to form teams and will play at 2:30 p.m. Followed by the boys 2A/3A game at 4:30 p.m.
Admission is $8 and includes all basketball and soccer games played that day.
South Panola
Two South Panola football players have been chosen to play in the Bernard Blackwell All-Star game. Offensive lineman Jonathan Hardin and defensive lineman Marjarvin Chapman will line up for their final game as a high schooler on Thursday, July 16. The game will be played in Robinson-Hale Stadium on the campus of Mississippi College in Clinton at 7 p.m.
