SARDIS– Shelia Mae Bobo, 34, died Monday, January 26, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-East.

Services are Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Mt. Zion M.B. Church in Sardis. Rev. Cedric V. Jackson will officiate.  Visitation is today 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary and Saturday 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. at Mt. Zion M.B. Church. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Bobo, born Sept. 27, 1974, in Sardis, to James Henry Morgan of Batesville and Emma Bobo of Sardis, was a member of Mt. Zion M.B. Church.

Survivors along with her parents include: five daughters, Me’Jastani Bobo MaShanta Bobo, Ke’Airra Cox, My’Dasia Cox and Sha’Merical Cox, all of Sardis; three sons, My’Keavian Bobo, Dacamean Cox and Darvin Cox, all of Sardis; three sisters, LaChelle Bobo, Priscilla Bobo, both of Sardis and Jacqueline Bobo of Batesville; one brother, Vence Bobo of Sardis and two grandchildren.

SENATOBIA– Edward Louis “Chip” Clinton III, 41, died Sunday, January 25, 2009, in Como.

Memorial services were Wednesday at Wells Funeral Home. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Clinton, born in Memphis, Aug. 21, 1967, to Carol Cox and Edward Louis Clinton II of Orlando, Fla., was a real estate developer.

Survivors along with his parents include: one son, Cole Chattam Clinton of Senatobia; one sister, Kelly Clinton Ginsburg and husband, Alan of Winter Park, Fla.; one brother, Drew Clinton and wife, Kelly of Oxford and his grandmother, Cloyee “Dear” Cox of Orlando.

BATESVILLE– Maria Joiner, 87, died Thursday, January 22, 2009, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services are Saturday at 11 a.m. at Harrisonville M.B. Church in Oxford. Rev. F.C. Kelson will officiate. Visitation is today 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary and Saturday from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. at Harrisonville M.B. Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Joiner, born Nov. 21, 1921, in Memphis, to the late Ed Edmond and the late Gennie Hibbler Edmond, was a homemaker and a member of Harrisonville M.B. Church.

Survivors include: four sisters, Edna House and Christine Montgomery, both of Sardis, Gennie Ruth Pride of Crenshaw and Willie Mae Coleman of Memphis and three brothers, Gene Edmond of Sardis, John Edmond of Vicksburg and Clarence Edmond of Batesville.

Jerry “Bobo” McGee

POPE– Jerry “Bobo” McGee, 63, died Tuesday, January 27, 2009, at his residence.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at Wells Funeral Home. Rev. Tommy Darby and Brad Pickett will officiate. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

McGee, born Dec. 18, 1945, in Panola County, to the late Thomas Homer and Merle Hubbard McGee, was a member of Chapel Hill Church.

He was retired from the U.S. Army and a retired shipping supervisor for ACI Metal Building.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Jean Mask McGee.

Survivors include: one daughter, Rebecca Jean “Becky” McGee of Pope; one son, William Jerry “Bill” McGee of Pope; two sisters, Doris McGee Shields of Batesville and Sherry McGee Darby of Pope and six grandchildren.

POPE– James L. Pope Sr., 58, died Friday, January 9, 2009, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services were Wednesday January 14, at Pope Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church. Rev. Nehemiah Martin officiated. Burial was in Pope Chapel Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.

Pope, born Oct. 16, 1950, to the late Hilliard Pope and the late Margaret Wright, was a maintenance supervisor for Parker Hannifan. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines and a member of Pope Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church.

He was a worshipful master of Pope Lodge No. 445A; a worthy patron of Victory Star 121 O.E.S. Bonikareem Chapter No. 1; Edward S. Baker Consistory No. 145 and Booker Royal Arch Chapter No. 48 and Hira Temple No. 131. He was preacher steward of the church, treasurer and member of the trustee board and sanctuary and male choir.

He was on the Pope Courtland Water Association and Pope Courtland Community Development. He was vice-president of the Pope Cemetery Committee.

Survivors include: his wife, Margaret G. Pope of Pope; five sons, James Pope Jr., Justin Pope, Jarrad Pope and Joseph Pope, all of Pope and Jandon Edwards of Batesville; three daughters, Debra Turner of Pope, Audra Willingham of Batesville and Erika Armstrong of Houston, Texas; three sisters, Birdia Pope and Georgella Hall, both of Batesville and Christine Pope of Detroit, Mich.; two brothers, William Pope of Pope and Jury Pope of Detroit, Mich. and seven grandchildren.

SARDIS– Burnice Griffin Sexton, 93, died Saturday, January 24, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.

Services are today at 2 p.m. at Meredith Nowell Funeral Home Chapel in Clarksdale. Visitation is noon until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oakridge Cemetery. Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home has charge.

Burnice was a homemaker and a member of the Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Richard Sexton.

Survivors include: two sons, Jay Richard Sexton of Sardis and Joseph Melvin Sexton of LaPlace, La.; two sisters, Omera Harris of Brandon and Mildred Bailey of Cleveland; one brother, A.J. Griffin of Lewisville, Texas; two grandchildren, Shane Sexton of Ocean Springs and Matthew Sexton of Gretna, La. and one great-granddaughter, Emily Sexton of Ocean Springs.

SARDIS– Mary Alfreda Appleton Still, 86, died Wednesday, January 28, 2009, at her residence.

Services are today at 2:30 p.m. at Wesley Chapel Church in Sardis. Rev. Randy Owen will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Still, born July 30, 1922, to the late John Jefferson Appleton and Cora Estus Gillespie Appleton, was a member of Wesley Chapel Church. She was a clerk for Riteway Cleaners.

Survivors include: one daughter, Susan Still King of Como; one son, Butch Still of Sardis; four grandchildren, John Still, Amy Still Brown, Shannon Hatton and C.J. King and six great-grandchildren, Tripp Still, Alexis Leigh Still, Chris Brown, Evan Brown, Lee Hatton and Mary Elizabeth Hatton.

BATESVILLE– Helen Marie Whitworth Turner, 81, died Tuesday, January 20, 2009, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services were Friday, January 23, at Wells Funeral Home. Rev. Kevin Crofford officiated. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Turner, born Dec. 25, 1927, in Randolph, to the late Luster C. and Mittie P. McCullough Whitworth, was a member of  North Batesville Baptist Church. She and her husband, Carl, owned Turner’s Silver Saver Grocery Store. She was also a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl J. Turner; her daughter, Sandra Jean Turner; one sister, Evelyn Tedford Russell and one brother, Carlyle Whitworth.

Survivors include: three sons, Carl Ray and his wife, Mary Phypher Turner of Ecru, Thomas Michael and his wife, Kay Turner of Batesville and William Edward and his wife, Connie Turner of Batesville; two brothers, Billy R. Whitworth and Larry J. Whitworth, both of Batesville; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
