Several thousand were estimated to have traveled to Dunlap Stadium from Rankin County to watch their team’s chance at upsetting the undefeated Tigers and to break the nation’s longest active winning streak.

It didn’t happen.

It’s not that SP fans weren’t into the game.

Winning and championships have come so frequently for South Panola football that we, as fans, often become complacent until the opposing team gets ahead or gives us close game.

And what did happen was an extremely exciting football game with actual football type weather, with beautiful fireworks and excited fans in a first class venue.

Who remembers if we were as excited and together as Northwest Rankin in the 1990s when we went from being a “pretty good” football team to a perennial powerhouse?

This week’s big ticket is not so much the Egg Bowl being played this afternoon in Oxford–it’s the Madison Central vs. South Panola game to decide the North Half Champion to represent us next week in the State 5A State Championship game.

Coach Lance Pogue knows the worth of a large and loud fan base and asks each week for supporters to come out and support our team.

That support is as important tonight as it ever was so let us be loud and let’s be large.

Go Tigers!
