Take your pick: dance, walk, bid this weekend

By Rita Howell

A just-for-fun community walk and a fund-raising dance whose dress code is “denim and diamonds” – these are just two of the options for those searching for something interesting to do close to home this weekend.

With no home football game in Batesville tonight (the Tigers played last night at DeSoto Central), one option is the Batesville Junior Women’s League’s “scrapbooking night” at the Batesville Public Library beginning at 5 p.m.

The route will proceed down College to Atwell to Boothe to the Square, where the walk will end at the Downtown Memorial Park. Door prizes wlll be awarded at the conclusion of the walk.

The event is free and is being coordinated with walks in 50 other towns on the same day. Call 563-3126 for information.

While they are walking, participants can be listening to Civitan Radio Day, an annual fund-raiser that benefits the Civitan Club’s community service projects.

Civitan members will be manning the controls at radio station WBLE Country 101FM from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. They’ll offer a number of donated items for bid.

Local Yokel show host Ricky Swindle will expand his Saturday morning program of music by local artists to the full day.

Grown-up supporters of the Boys and Girls Club can dress up in denim and diamonds and attend a fund-raising dance in the cafeteria at South Panola High School Saturday night, beginning at 8 p.m.
