Quitman County Triad will meet at Marks Community Center at 11 a.m. for a Community Development program sponsored by First Security Bank. “Financial Tips for Seniors” is a free program that is open to the public. Everyone wanting to take advantage of these  money saving tips and offers are urged to attend.

“Summer Fun: Bug and Plant Camp” presented by Dr. John Guyton, associate Extension Professor, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Entomology and Plant Pathology at MSU will be at Quick Bites from noon to 1 p.m. at the MSU Extension Service, 245 C Eureka St., Batesville.  MSU Extension’s Bug and Plant Camp was the first residential Bug Camp, and campers come from all over the country and beyond! As an immersion camp we are up early and the days are packed. Night collecting is so popular it is difficult to get back to the dorms before midnight! 4-H Agents serve on staff and camp for free, and will be ready to assist 4-Hers with their entomology projects. March 17

The 24th annual Panola Partnership Meeting and Banquet at 211 Main in Como will be held with updates of economic development in 2019, social opportunities, awards, and dinner.

The regular meeting of the the Panola County NAACP scheduled for March 10 has been changed due to the Primary Elections. Everyone is invited to attend the NAACP meeting at the Batesville Public Library on the 17th.

March 19

Panola County TRIAD, with First Security Bank, will present a free program “Why You Need a Will” at the Sardis Civil Defense (Emergency Operations) building at 2 p.m. This is a very informative Community Development program that is open to the public.

March 24

An AARP Safe Driving Class will be offered by First Security Bank from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the 2nd Floor Training Room at the Main Branch. The session is free and open to the public.

March 25

South Panola Parent Center’s Workshop will host “Brain Building Activities You Can Do At Home” at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. presented by Tunga Otis and Melissa Readus, MCCB-Family Engagement Specialists with the Early Childhood Academy of the Mississippi Community College Board in Jackson. “Eat Right Bite by Bite: 20 Nutrition and Health Tips for 2020” presented by Juaqula Madkin, Extension Instructor, Food Science, Nutrition and Health Promotion at MSU will be at Quick Bites from noon to 1 p.m. at the MSU Extension Service, 245 C Eureka St., Batesville. Good nutrition doesn’t have to be restrictive or overwhelming. Small goals and changes can have a cumulative healthful effect, and every little bit (or bite!) of nutrition is a step in the right direction. Registered Dietitian Qula Madkin will provide realistic nutrition and health tips for healthier living.  

April 2

Love All Paws Rescue has an “Egg My Yard” fundraiser planned for the animal rescue operation. Deadline for signup is April 2. For a donation, volunteers will fill plastic eggs with premium candy and hid the eggs in your yard the night of April 11 (day before Easter) for an Easter Egg hunt without all the work. April 18

The annual Batesville Springfest Pageant will be held at Batesville Junior High School. Contact the offices of Panola Partnership at 563-3126 for more info.

April 25

The 11th annual Showoff of the Square – Open Car Show will begin at 8 a.m. Open to all makes and models of trucks, race Carrs, race trucks, and motorcycles. Cash and door prizes will be given away. Concessions will be provided by Merea Ministries. Profits from the show are donated to Baptist Children’s Village and other local needs. $20 entry fee for cars/trucks. May 15-16

Plans for the 22nd annual SpringFest are being finalized. The two-day music festival will feature carnival rides, food vendors, arts and crafts, and a full lineup of a variety of musical genres.

Mondays

Gymnastics for kids is held 5-6 p.m. for ages 4-6 and 6-6:45 p.m.for ages 7 and up. Class follows the South Panola school schedule. Call 710-6121 for information.

Captain C.B. Vance Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp #1669 meets monthly on the first Monday at 7 p.m. at the Batesville Public Library. For more information call 934-6211. Camp Commander is Donald Wright, Jr.

Tuesdays

The Panola County Election Commissioners meet the first Tuesday of each month at the Batesville Courthouse at 2 p.m.

The American Legion meets the third Tuesday of every month at the VFW at 5:30 p.m.

The Panola County Humane Society meets the fourth Tuesday of every month at the Batesville Public Library at 5:30 p.m.

Panola County Cancer Relief Organization meets the second Tuesday of each month at the Batesville Public Library at 6 p.m.

Al-Anon Serenity Group meets Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. at Oxford University United Methodist Church, 424 S. Tenth St., Oxford. Take the Tyler St. entrance.

Thursdays

Batesville VFW Post 4968 and Auxiliary meets the first Thursday of every month at the VFW building at 6 p.m.

Saturdays

Every third Saturday of the month, the Batesville Lions Club will have Karaoke Night starting at 6 p.m. Music starts at 7 p.m. at the Lions Club building off Tiger Drive.

Panola County Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are held at Batesville First United Methodist Church at noon daily. For information call 234-8585.

Celebrate Recovery With Jesus meets each Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6:30 p.m. at Victory Independent Baptist Church on Hwy. 51S, two-and-a-half miles south of Batesville on the right. Bring all your hurts, habits, and hang-ups. Call 209-7773 for more information.
