Jewel Lene Betts

COLDWATER– Jewel Lene Betts, 82, died Wednesday, October 1, 2008, at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis.

Services were Saturday at Antioch No. 2 M.B. Church. Burial was in Greater St. Samaritan A.M.E. Church. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home had charge.

Betts was a member of  Antioch No. 2 M.B. Church. She was an usher and on the Mother Board. She was a custodian for Tate County.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis C. Betts.

Survivors include: four daughters, Hildred Mallory, Willie M. Douglas and Dorce Crawford, all of Coldwater, and Emma Coleman of Strayhorn;  two sons, Molente Betts and Eddie Coleman, both of Coldwater; 20 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.

Mary Elizabeth Poynor Collins

OXFORD– Mary Elizabeth Poynor Collins, 62,  formerly of Sledge, died Monday, October 6, 2008, at her residence.

Services are today at 2 p.m. at New Prospect Baptist Church. Rev. Ken White will officiate. Burial will be in Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Waller Funeral Home has charge.

Collins was a member of new Prospect Baptist Church. She worked at Collins Oil in Arthur, Ill. and was Head of Quality Control at Pennaco Hosiery in Grenada.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Wayne Collins.

Survivors include: three daughters, Kathy Petros, Charlotte White  and Norma Prewitt, all of Oxford; one sister, Carolyn Sue Beavers of Batesville; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The family requests that memorials be made to Baptist Hospice Association, 124 Hwy. 51, Batesville, Miss. 38606.

Rosemary Barlow Cook

SLEDGE– Rosemary Barlow Cook, 68, died Thursday, October 2, 2008, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Desoto.

Services were Sunday at Wells Funeral Home. Rev. Roy Bailey officiated. Burial was in Longtown Cemetery in Crenshaw. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Cook, born Feb. 14, 1940, in Sledge, to the late Henry and Sadie Matthews Barlow, was a factory worker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Jefferson Cook.

Survivors include: two daughters, Faye Cook Cummins of Askew and Glenda Cook of Sledge; three sisters, Bonnie Burns of Texas, Peggy Wells of Senatobia and Dorothy Gregory of Sledge; three brothers, Sammy Thomas Barlow of Independence, Henry Lee Barlow of Tunica and Billy Barlow of Sarah; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Agnes Gross

MARKS– Agnes Gross, 88, died Sunday, September 28, 2008, at the Quitman County Hospital.

Services were Monday at Hammond Hill M.B. Church in Como. Burial was in Hammond Hill Church Cemetery. Pate-Jones Funeral Home had charge.

Survivors include: four sons, Willie Martin of Como, James Martin of Sardis, Rufus Martin of Holly Springs and Ira Lee Martin of Marks; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Fisher Allen Jaco

PEARL RIVER, La.– Fisher Allen Jaco, three months, died Tuesday, September 30, 2008, at his residence.

Services were Thursday at D.T. Williams Funeral Home in Pearl River, La. Orean Spence officiated. Burial was in Hickory Memorial Gardens. 77Williams Funeral Home had charge.

Survivors include: his parents, Timothy Jaco and Samantha Daw of Pearl River, La.; two brothers, Blayne Gaspard and Hunter Jaco; his grandparents, Kim and William Daw, Keith and Kim Lantrip of Batesville and Robert Allen and Cindy Jaco of Batesville and his great-grandparents, Barbara Faye Palmisano and Margaret Koszyk of Batesville.

Joseph Mark Sullivan

Joseph Mark Sullivan, 25, passed away Sunday, October 5, 2008 at his home in Batesville.

Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church in Batesville with interment in Antioch Cemetery. Reverend Pat Ludlam and Reverend Ed Woodall with officiate. Pallbearers will be Dallas Allgood, Woody Drake, Blake Shipp, Bubba Smoot, Joel Rivers, Dewayne Barmer, Clint Powers, Taylor Rivers and Lee Allen. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home.

Sullivan was born Monday February 28, 1983 in Batesville to Kathy Benson Sullivan and to the late Pete Sullivan. He was a civil engineer for Pickering Engineer Firm in Jackson and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Starkville.

He is survived by his mother, Kathy Benson Sullivan of Batesville; two sisters, Sarah Beth Sullivan and Fisher Sullivan, both of Batesville; one brother, Nicholas Sullivan of Batesville. Also, he leaves his grandparents, Mac and Tommy Benson of Courtland; Kay Sullivan of Wilmington, Ill. and Geneva Appleton of Batesville.

The family has asked, that those who wish to sent memorials, please send them to North Delta School or First United Methodist Church, both of Batesville.
