MHP ends holiday enforcement period with 10 car deaths

No crash fatalities reported in Panola
The 2019 Thanksgiving holiday law enforcement period, which ran from Wednesday morning to Sunday night (Nov. 27 – Dec. 1), was a deadly for state motorists with 10 fatalities recorded on highways and interstates, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
There were no accident fatalities in Panola County during the enforcement period, although deputies and patrolmen worked several wrecks in the county.
MHP released data Monday that showed state officers issued 6,824 traffic citations with 95 DUI arrests during the period. Some 185 vehicle crashes were investigated, with 49 injuries and 10 deaths reported.
Of the fatalities, two were in Marshall County and others were in Montgomery, Union, Webster, and Hinds.
Troop E of the MHP, which covers Panola County, issued nine DUI tickets and made one drug arrest during the Thanksgiving period. Overall, Troop E patrolmen issued 16 tickets for failing to wear a seat belt, and four citations for child restraint infractions.
Troop E, which also covers parts of several counties in North Mississippi worked 22 wrecks with two fatalities and eight injuries. The busiest day for that Troop was Saturday when offices wrote four DUI tickets and worked six wrecks.
