During this period all clothing, footwear, and school supplies with sales prices of less than $100 per article are eligible for no sales tax charges at the time of purchase. Online purchases are also eligible for the approved items, but must be ordered and paid for during the holiday period.

The Mississippi Department of Revenue, on its official website, has a breakdown of eligible and non-eligible items, complete with definitions of what is “clothing” and “school supplies” as determined by the state’s lawyers.

For people with absolutely nothing else to occupy their time, the Dept. of Revenue also provides three long paragraphs for readers explaining the state’s position on refunds and exchanges of eligible items during the Tax Holiday.

A separate paragraph covers the intricacies of its rain check policy. Read this, and more, at www.dor.ms.gov.
